This add-on has been available for a while as a limited, mail-order add-on. But at last Aerosoft have seen fit to give it a full commercial release on their roster.
Made by dedicated programmers, you can tell they really put a lot of time and effort into this route which they clearly love, this add-on is just superb. It spans a number of decades, from the 50's to the 80's, so you get diesel engines, as well as some steam engines too! The beloved DMU class diesel railcar is in this add-on too, in both it's older green, and later, blue and white, liveries.
The route itself is picturesque. A beautiful seaside route, you travel over windy moors, along wind-swept coastal rocks and past scenic views through seaside towns and villages. The route is fairly long, and its shelf life is further increased by the realistic speed limit of 60 km/h at most. So a long journey will indeed take a long time!
The route goes from Machynlleth to Pwllheli, along with a branch line to Aberystwyth. Have a look out for Dovey Junction. Many of us English and Irish people know what it's like being made to change trains at a junction. Usually it's in the middle of nowhere and looks somewhat eerie and deserted. I think Dovey Junction represents this perfectly, it captures the feeling perfectly!
Added realism is given by having to contact the signalman at red lights, who speaks back to you and gives you instructions.
There are plenty of activities to do. This is a top add-on. I think it is its quaint charm which makes it so appealing. There aren't many English based lines out there available commercially in the shops, so this one should do quite well.
