A Real Gem 20 Jan 2012

I've read quite a lot of lame travel books recently and so my expectations of this book weren't high at all. It seems as if every Tom, Dick and Harry is trying his hand at being a travel writer these days.

I am delighted to say though that this is a really excellent book and it was a very pleasant surprise. Alvin Kim really does write very well indeed, being both very informative and entertaining. He had me chuckling out loud on more than one occasion - and that's rare.

My only criticism would be that the book was a little too short - I finished it in just half an hour and I was left wanting more.

I really hope that he does some more travelling and writes more as I'll definitely be reading anything else he does if it's of the same quality as this book.

Highly Recommended.

Honest and Amusing portrayal of a tourist in Cambodia 16 July 2011
By MrMKG - Published on Amazon.com
Cambodia Uncensored is a very honest and amusing portrayal of the experiences of a tourist in Cambodia. His detailed descriptions of bathrooms, restaurants, traffic, holy temples, beggars, and thieves were very vivid and I could almost see the country myself through his eyes. The depicted North Korean restaurant, Pyongyang, was fascinating and amusing. The child fanning him the whole way up 500 steps to the top of a holy temple in hopes of getting a tip had me laughing out loud. The horrific traffic dangers associated with entire families sitting on motos (tiny motorcycle scooters) are accurate and common in many 3rd world countries. Alvin's honest compassion for the disfigured child towards the end of his trip reflect well on him and what he learned in his trip. Great story, buddy! Can't wait for North Korea: Uncensored!!!!!

Want some Cheese with your Wine? 23 Feb 2012
By Jeffrey D. Lenney - Published on Amazon.com
Wow, was the author on his period while he was on this vacation? It was filled with NOTHING but his complaints and small insulting jabs at Cambodia and the khmer people.

I had to close the book after the first 3 chapters, all he talked about was corruption, money, not being able to get into the temple for free...I can really see nothing positive about this book.

I've been to Cambodia myself and LOVED it and had nothing but positive experiences. Maybe all these bad experiences stayed away because I was on a private tour and the good vibes scared them away?, I don't know..but I loved it and plan on going back to Cambodia, and then Thailand (For the first time) this coming January

In closing about the book - If it wasn't free, I'd ask for a refund.
