I have been an independent traveller for several decades, firstly relying on Lonely Planet, but have tired of these over the years as the guide to the actual countries are somewhat shallow and can be a tad alarmist.
I bought this book having seen no review, you can't count the previous one on this site!. It arrived today and I have been totally engrossed since opening the packing. It's information is very comprehensive, and just what you want to get a flavour of what to expect and where to get the things you want in a country and culture that you have not visited before. It is not aimed at any particular type or class of traveller, and doesn't talk down to the reader. The History and background to this fascinating country is well written, succinct and very useful. It covers all aspects of travel methods between the various towns and has answered questions thoroughly.
This was the first footprint book I have purchased, it doesn't have loads of glossy pictures - which don't tell you anything about the place you are going to visit. The site and town maps are very clear with a sensible usable key. I feel that , tho I haven't read half this book so far it has given me a good knowledge of how to get about Cambodia when I get there, in the way that has given me a good grounding of knowledge, so I can make the most of the time I have when I get there to see the things I want to see in the way I want to see them. It gives advice on methods of various organised itineries, as well as how to go about getting the best out of individual ideas for visits.
Highly recommended and I am now going to search the other guide books from this series.
