Arriving in England from Canada on May 12, 2010, I was all stuffed up from a long trip across the pond. It felt as if I was coming down with a head cold. I needed something to open up my nasal passages. So I popped into the nearest pharmacist to see what I could get. I'm not crazy about those pill-type decongestants that either make you drowsy or non-drowsy. I just don't like them. At home I had always used a saline solution in the spray bottle with mixed results. After any lengthy use, my nose would feel like a bed of sea salt - not exactly a pleasant feeling. So I definitely wanted something different. Examining the items on the shelf, I came across Calpol, a saline nasal spray for babies! Whodathunkit! I took a look at the active ingredients on the literature. Seemed to be the regular kind of nasal spray. But, if it was especially for babies, then maybe it had something else in it that would be gentler on my nose than a straight saline spray. So I thought I would give it a try. I was in a really miserable state so I had to do something.
Squirt, squirt in one nostril. Squirt, Squirt in the other nostril. And I started walking down the street. After one block, I could feel the congestion draining from one nostril. By the time I reached the second block, my other nostril was starting to drain. By the time I got up to my B&B, my nose and nasal passages were clear! My sinuses then started to drain. And my nose didn't feel like a bed of sea salt, either. I used the Calpol for the next several days until my cold disappeared.
We don't have Calpol here in Canada so I went back the next week and cleaned the pharmacist out of all of their Calpol (3 bottles) and picked up another 6 bottles before I left to return back home. Since then I always make sure I have a ready supply of Calpol on hand. Here in Canada as soon as the snow flies, we know that the cold and flu season will be right behind it. Since I can't get Calpol in Canada, I have to use an Internet pharmacy. So far, I've had 3 orders filled and they've been delivered within a reasonable time. Even though it's recommended for babies, it's done wonders to keep my nose and nasal passages clear of congestion.
