I did Callanetics for a while in the late '80s and found it very good for toning up my slim twenty-year-old body. I should never have given it up but I did... and now as a (very) overweight couch potato in my late thirties I have taken on the "Callanetics Countdown" as part of my intention to become slim again before I hit the dreaded four-oh. I heartily recommend this program as it starts off very gently (a much easier way to start than just launching into the Basic Callanetics program, especially for someone as unfit as myself) and you only step things up when you are ready to. Very quickly you can achieve more and see the results in the mirror - and also I am feeling so much better, more "aligned" in my spine, standing up straighter (and I've had a paralysing spinal injury & major surgery in the past so I really appreciate this!) and my balance and stamina have improved. I can do so much more than I would have though possible now. I'm still only on Day 20 so this is a real result for me. Looking forward to returning to the basic program in 10 days time and then stepping up to Super Callanetics! I'm really hooked now as I've seen so much improvement without risking injury to my vulnerable spine. I'm combining this with a diet and within just a few weeks I am now looking quite different. Rather than spot-reducing, I'm doing all the exercises each day, and the results are amazing. I've lost 18 of the 100 pounds I need to lose, and I'm feeling SO much fitter already. I wish I'd done this years ago. My doctor is almost as thrilled as I am! If a fat lump like me can do this, enjoy it, and succeed at it, then anyone can! Good luck!

I'm an impatient person and anything that promises me a beautiful body in 30 days HAS to be worth a try. It starts easy (phase one teaches you the basics) and progresses pretty quickly (phase four) and believe it or not you will see a difference in about two weeks (somewhere between phases two or three). Anyway, the handy thing is you can focus on your problem areas ie. saggy bum or wobbley tummy and really work on it. I'm a pencil pusher, I've never set foot in a gym and I love my chocolate but you'ld never guess..........

I bought this book as a teenager over 20 years ago in a book clearance shop for £3. I had been considering yoga or pilates because of their low impact approach but decided to give this a go as it was so cheap. It has turned out to be the best spent £3 I could ever have imagined!

It does not offer celebrity endorsement and photos of trendy young things clad in lycra. Instead you have a methodical and accessible 30 day program that has never failed me. If I fall into an unhealthy pattern my trouble spot is my tummy which can become bloated and untoned. Whenever I choose to follow this to get back in shape it has always been infinitely more effective than running, cycling, aerobics or the gym. It is so successful that friends will comment and ask if I have been dieting heavily. The secret is that I have just followed this simple book (loosing inchs in the process.)

Pros: simple to follow, no equipment needed, excellent toning, no sweating!
Cons: dated 1970s black & white photos, the models are quite elderly ladies!, as you progress through the 30 days it increasingly can take up to an hour

It is possible to break this up into smaller chunks throughout the day.I personally find the time quite relaxing and a good way to contempate & reflect on my day.

Whereas the models are not aspirational it is important not to be distracted by this. It merely empahsises how accessible this is to all age groups. The results are truely amazing, maximising whatever your natural body shape may be.

Great book, although maybe considered old fashioned now, it's a classic book and you can't beat it for back to basics exercise. The seller was incredibly quick on the despatch.

I've used this book so many times when I've put on weight and needed to feel better. You have to really read the book well to ensure you are doing the exercises correctly - I still read them every time after buying this book in 1990 and they work better and better each day. Your body will be firmer, if you have leg circulation problems they will be massively improved (eliminated in my case) and you will be more flexible, look better and be stronger. It doesn't do cardio-vascular exercise - but you can do that on alternate days and sometimes when you're very unfit you wouldn't be able to do it at first anyway. There aren't many exercise books, videos and DVDs I keep long term but this is definitely one of the few that will always be kept and used when I need a boost.

Easy to follow and cracking results. Works wonders with my bad back, loosens it up and the exercises are gentle enough to do without doing further injury.
