Call of the wild, 27 Dec 2002
By A Customer
the acting in this film is superb especially by buck. The effort which must have gone into training this dog really shows and th outcome is astonishing. It inlcudes a relatively unknown cast with the exception of charlton heston (john thornton). The ending is very emotional in this family epic and i would say it is definately a must see film for everyone.

DON'T BUY US IMPORTS, 15 Dec 2009
This review is from: Call of the Wild [DVD] [1973] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
I ORDERED THIS FILM FOR MY MOTHER AS PART OF HER CHRISTMAS AS IT'S ONE OF HER FAVOURITE FILMS AND I REMEMBER WATCHING IT WHEN I WAS SMALL. I WAS DESPERATE TO RECEIVE THE FILM AND WHEN I DID I DECIDED TO WATCH IT BEFORE I GAVE IT TO MY MOTHER AND IT'S A GOOD JOB I DID. THE STANDARD OF DVD WAS VERY POOR AND THE FILM ITSELF LOOKS LIKE A COPY. THE BACKGROUND MUSIC IS AWFUL AND AT POINTS IN THE FILM THE ACTORS' MOUTHS DON'T KEEP UP WITH THE DIALOGUE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND NOW HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE.

Buck realizes his potential, 10 Jun 2006
This review is from: Call of the Wild [DVD] [1973] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)
"The Indians in this frozen land tell of a ghost dog which runs at the head of a wolf pack. - They are afraid. For it has more strength than any wolf, more cunning than any dog. No one knows from whence he came or why he stays."
It is summer in California and Buck has it made as the family pet. That is until it is discovered that he was worth his wait in gold or at least $75. He is sold to a broker who will take him to the Klondike where only dogs can do the work usually delegated to horses. There Buck goes through many lives, trials, and tribulations finally realizing his potential. On the way he learns many concepts from surprise, to deceit, and cunning; he also learns loyalty, devotion, and love. As he is growing he feels the call of the wild. And so do we.
True to the book this film holds nothing back. All the highlights of the original story are portrayed and Charlton Heston has the main character, John Thornton down to a tee. And unlike some Disney versions we see Buts tribute and love for John.
