Product Description

Product Description

Another quality eBook from Chapel Library (active contents) with study questions.

"A Call to Prayer" was one of J.C. Ryle’s best received works in his day and has remained so ever since. It is a direct exhortation to pray fervently and without ceasing. “I want the times we live in to be praying times. I want the Christians of our day to be praying Christians. I want the church to be a praying church. My heart’s desire and prayer in sending forth this tract is to promote a spirit of prayerfulness. I want those who never prayed yet, to arise and call upon God, and I want those who do pray, to see that they are not praying amiss.”—from the Conclusion.

Contents include the following chapters, with study questions for each chapter (used by permission of Mount Zion Bible Institute):
1. Prayer Is Needful to a Man’s Salvation
2. The Habit of Prayer: Mark of a True Christian
3. Prayer: The Most Neglected Duty
4. Prayer Produces Great Encouragement
5. Diligence in Prayer: The Secret of Holiness
6. Prayer and Backsliding
7. Prayer and Contentment
8. Advice to the Unsaved
9. Counsel to the Saints

J. C. Ryle is an inspired commentator on Biblical themes. This book, although a short volume, covers the ground comprehensively and is written with insight and inspiration. Each chapter rings with a personal spiritual challenge as relevant today as when the book was written. Highly commended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Private Prayer, Pertinent Revelation 25 Mar 2014
By Tinfoot - Published on

I had no clue wait awaited me in "A Call to Prayer" save it was written by a minister in the 19th century. Oh, what a living word this dear saint has for us in the 21st century!

Private prayer, earnest private prayer without formal platitudes or fear of ineloquent form, private prayer as intercession for others' sake as for our own, private prayer as growth freely available to all, sinners and believers alike, private prayer as individual salvation, as daily encouragement, and as the unified building up of the church of Christ.

Understandable, direct, cutting, yet wonderfully uplifting writing with study questions at the end of each chapter, seperated in order with the main text's subheadings, which will help the true seekers enter into personal understanding and experience of private prayer with pertinent questions and reference Bible verses.

Other ministers to consider in reference to prayer:
George Müller
Watchman Nee
Witness Lee

Loved this prayer guide. It's a must for all Christians... new and old converts. Amazing, it was originally written over 100 years ago must principles are still alive and applicable for today's Bible teaching and those who are really sincere about this walk and relationship with Christ.
