My shipment arrived a few days ago. After the activities of the week, tonight I sat down to savor this marvelous gem--this treasure. I was fortunate enough to watch Series 1 here in the States, and at the end of viewing Series 1 I was hooked. This is quality acting, writing, directing, location, stories, character development, etc, etc, etc. I started with the Christmas Special being particularly fascinated by the Chumley character. I was a child in the 50's, however, it brings back nostalgic remembrances. Pam Ferris is one of my favorite British actresses. Each actor brings such nuance that they make this series so real. It felt as if I could pick up my phone and call for a midwife. The "love" tension between the nun and the doctor brings real human grist to the story line--for we all struggle at time in our lives between what we "love" and what is right. The dynamic between each midwife--each with unique character qualities felt alive. This Anglophile joins together with all the reviewers who have been touched & entertained by Call the Midwife. I am now going to invest in the books, for this series has been a real motivator to indulge myself.
