Chicano, Hawthorne (California)-born Chris Montez' first claim to fame was as a rock 'n' roll singer scoring two transatlantic hits "Let's Dance" (1962) and "Some Kinda Fun" (early 1963)for Jim Lee's Monogram Records. Both discs went gold saving Monogram from bankruptcy
He resurfaced in 1966 on Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss' A & M label (Alpert & Moss) notching up three stateside Top 40 hits "Call Me" (#22), "The More I See You" (# 16) and "Time After Time" (#36), all Latin-flavoured MOR 45s. In Britain, "The More I See You" became a monster hit topping out at # 3. His final UK chart contender was the delightful "There Will Never Be Another You" which stalled at a lowly # 36.
All the above hits are, needless to say, included here. The 22-track strong compendium consists largely of standards such as "Fly Me To The Moon", "The Very Thought of You", "The Shadow of Your Smile", "Just Friends", et al. Ace UK pop tunesmith Tony Hatch is featured on "Call Me" and "Where Are You Now (My Love"), the latter a 1965 chart topper for Jackie Trent with whom he penned the song. Almost every tune is sung by Mr. Montez in a soft, lilting, very high-tenor range to lazy Latin rhythms which makes the entire compilation very pleasant and relaxing easy listening. The sound quality is very good. His first comeback hit "Call Me" is, however, in palid mono. All in all an excellent collection!

With Call me and his A & M contract Chris Montez entered into his 2nd life and hit big with The more I see you,a song from the 40s which had also been revived by American singer based in the U K Joy Marshall.
Thus he became part of the A & M Family joing Herb Alpert,Sergio Mendes & Brasill 66 and the Baja Marimba Band as an exponent of MOR where there would be at least 4 albums into the 70s

Delightful selection of songs by this charming entertainer. I have long been a fan of Chris Montez and I was not disappointed with this CD.

Bought this CD for one song. The more I see you. The rest isn't too bad either but not really my kind of music.
