They'll never know.

A series of murders with nothing to connect the victims except the manner of death and a note left at each crime scene.

Detective Inspector Paolo Storey has just six weeks to find the killer. Without clues or even a hint of motive, he feels as if he’s tracking a ghost.

But the murderer isn’t a ghost. He’s a man determined to avenge a wrong from many years earlier. To get close to his prey, he assumes various identities and calls it pretending.

Can Paolo win in his race against the pretender?

4.0 out of 5 stars Competent 27 July 2014

I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in the series and was really looking forward to Call It Pretending but I found that, whilst good, it wasn't quite as gripping. The plot is clever with plenty of twists and turns, but, without giving away any details, it has been done before so, if like me, you read plenty of crime fiction you will probably have a good idea early on of what's going to happen. Ms DI Plino puts her own slant on it so it is still interesting and keeps you turning the pages. She intersperses her crime with plenty of detail on main protagonist Paolo Storey's home life which fleshes out the character. He is a nice guy and likeable but I felt the dialogue he was given was a bit clunky and unlife like in places. All in all this is a good addition to the series and I'm looking forward to the next one.
