What a fantastic book!! I have long been a fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips, she is my favourite author, by a long way. Having said that, I was a unsure whether I was going to enjoy this one as much as some of her classics. I had read the first chapter on her website and was concerned that I would find Ted too bland, Meg too flaky and I couldn't figure out what I was going to think about Lucy jilting him at the alter. I should have had more faith!! This was fantastic. I laughed out loud (repeatedly), I got sentimental at parts, angry at others, and I am even ashamed to admit I had butterflies in my stomach listening to the last couple of hours after Meg left town. It was also great to catch up with characters from some of SEP's previous works. The only people missing from the guest list at the wedding were the Chicago Stars!
As any fans of the audio versions of SEP's books will know, the author and publishers had an immensely difficult task in replacing the late, great Anna Fields / Kate Fleming as narrator. She was fantastic, and was most definitely 'the voice' of SEP. While Julia Gibson did a reasonable job with Glitter Baby and What I did For Love, she never quite captured the essence of the books in the same way her predecessor had. I think though, we can say the search for the new voice is over. Shannon Cochran was brilliant, I really loved listening to her, and it actually 'felt' like I was listening to a Susan Elizabeth Phillips book. Maybe its because (in my opinion at least) her voice sounds a little like SEP's own voice, that in parts it felt like it was the author herself that was narrating the story.
I totally recommend this book (either printed or audio) to anyone who wants a funny, entertaining, satisfying romance. I can't wait for Lucy's story and am desperately hoping we don't have another 2 year wait!!
