Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The call of duty needs answering once again, as the blockbusting first person shooter series returns to the modern day. A direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you now play new character Sgt Gary "Roach" Sanderson. Your commander is "Soap" from the first game as you join a multinational anti-terrorist squad out to stop Russian ultra nationalists.

Watch your squad grow from inexperienced rookies to veteran warriors
A snowmobile race is just one of the new vehicle sections
Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4
You'll journey all around the world in the fight against terrorism

The story mode features an even more varied series of locales than before, including a snowbound mission that starts with a daredevil mountain climb and ends with a high speed snowmobile chase as you make your escape. With other levels set in Afghanistan, Rio de Janeiro and even underwater this has more action than a dozen Hollywood blockbusters.

But that's just the single player mode - the multiplayer is even more ground-breaking than before, with new co-op options and even more rewards and perks for competitive play.

Key Features
  • Call of Warfare - Stunning cinematic action, including new underwater missions, new gadgets such as the motion detector and new vehicles including snowmobiles and more.
  • Rough guide - Massive globe-spanning adventure sees you travelling to the deserts of Afghanistan, the slums of Rio de Janerio and the wilderness of Russia.
  • Bigger world - New larger levels allow you to tackle missions however you want: will you try a frontal assault or a more stealthy approach from another angle?
  • Special co-op - New Special Ops mode will introduce two player co-operative play for the first time, in a series of non-story missions.
  • Be the best - Competitive multiplayer is even bigger and better than before, with new kill streak rewards that unlock everything from supply drops to a AC-130 gunship attack.
About the Developer: Infinity Ward
After working on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for EA, Infinity Ward's first game as their own company was fellow World War II title Call of Duty. Since then the California company has never had time to do anything else, as the ongoing series has become one of the best-selling of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Warfare, still a class act 20 Jan. 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard Edition
In my humble opinion, Modern Warfare 2 was the best Call of Duty ever made. It builds on the original modern warfare game but with even better maps and weapons. It has a stunning campaign, spec ops missions which you can team up with a friend to complete (and i advise you do) and an online multiplayer that hasn't been surpassed to date. The maps are simply stunning in their layout, loads of different weapons and varied kill-streaks, of which you can preselect three.

Having recently been on this there are still quite a few people playing it online but you can tell the number have dropped. Graphically it still looks impressive and the audio is fantastic. If you've never played it then buy it for the campaign and see the multiplayer as a bonus!

RECOMMENDED if you've never played it, don't forget it is 5 years old now!

5.0 out of 5 stars A demonic poison that makes you weep dreams 13 Sept. 2014
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Standard Edition
This game will forever be haunting the Parthenon of legendary first person shooters. It is perhaps the closest a video game has ever come to being poetry, and, as you navigate the tumultuous mist of Highrise, or indeed the devilish Cold War stench of Wasteland, one cannot help thinking that the idea for this game was taken from long lost pre war prose, detailing the parylysing lure of an UMP 45 with marathon, ninja, and inevitably, every delivery drivers best friend, lightweight. Let yourselves be hindered no more younglings, for here is a game so historic, you can smell the bitter tears of those who still fly the pathetic flag for gears of war. Do us all a favour darlings, Pave low.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Online IMO 28 Aug. 2013

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I still think even though this was released in 2009 that mw2 represents the most fun i have ever had in a multiplayer game.
The online community is still massive, I don't remember ever having to wait more than 20 seconds before i get into a match.
A lot of people complain this game is unbalanced, or has cheap killstreaks etc. This is just mindless rhetoric reposted because people don't actually have enough originality to phrase their own thoughts.

How can something be unbalanced if every single player who plays the game can utilise the same thing?! f*** crazy.

If you go running around outside like a nutter whilst an enemy chopper/harrier etc is in the air then the chances are your gonna get hit.

So switch to cold blooded, keep inside and search for people with a shotgun, simples.

There are however genuine problems with this game. I won't assign blame for that is beyond the scope of my review, i will state the problems though.

Anyone who tells you that hacking doesn't exist in mw2 is either delusional, lying or themselves a hacker.
I get a hacker, or evidence of a hacker every 2-3 games.
How can i tell? I'll list the most frequently seen.

11th Prestige: You can tell these hackers because their emblem is a kind of dark blue green/grey square in the lobby view, nothing prresents in game. Technically these are hackers but in reality most of the time their hacking involvement seems to limit itself to obtaining this emblem. Personally i don't see the point.

Blatant Hacks: So, starting estate map, i suddenly die, wtf its 2 seconds in! In kill am i see someone flying wielding dual glocks firing what appears to be chupper gunner bullets!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Left Exposed 28 Nov. 2012

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Now that the world's moved on to the next iteration of COD and beyond, what remains is the single-player experience and it's nothing much to write home about. Sure, it looks the business and the alternative-present world war setting is an interesting idea but the narrative is disjointed and there are too many bad levels.

The narrative is fragmented because it's told from too many perspectives. Like a stray dog, the player is passed from soldier to soldier, most of whom seem to get betrayed (usually for unfathomable reasons). Throw in some globe-trotting and you're left feeling lost as to what the purpose of each level is.

King of the bad levels is the streets of Rio level. The player is forced to blunder along a warren of alleys while being shot at constantly from above by the entire populace. Progress is only possible through incremental advances and navigating is sheer blind luck. Other failures are a rubbish power-ski chase, a poor last level (a boat chase) and the controversial airport level which is neither shocking nor entertaining (take the option to skip because it's a boring walk, not because it's morally dubious).

There are good levels too, to be fair: the American homeland amid a Russian invasion throws up some good ones, the oil rig is a good, claustrophobic firefight and there's a decent base-defence level near the end. The trouble is, the flaws in the narrative mean that these highlights are spikes of excellence in an otherwise under-boiled experience.

Obviously, the single-player experience was always intended to play second fiddle to the online multiplayer, which was by most accounts brilliant, but this feels like an afterthought. The Rio level aside, it's playable, just incredibly generic.

I bought this game as my first PROPER Call of Duty as I'd played World at War (A great game it must be said), but was looking to take it all a bit more seriously. More recently during endless Summer Holidays, came back for a replay and absolutely LOVED IT!

To start my review, the Campaign. I never took this seriously the first time as I was worried having not played CoD 4, that my understanding would be hindered - upon reflection, true to an extent. A small amount of background knowledge would be useful maybe, but not entirely necessary. The will to understand the Modern Warfare storyline however, brought me neatly back to this game and a replay of the Campaign was in order!

This revisit was Superb! Although the Campaign is rather too linear in my opinion, with a new mindset and more regard for the characters and plot, the story really did catch on and I was in tune with the game. Hans Zimmer (my personal favourite in soundtrack composing) has done us VERY proud in this campaign as well - the music is absolutely astonishing and fitting in every scene!! It really does make a huge difference to the gameplay, and calls those game-changing moments to be evermore dramatic and emotional.
Overall, an outstanding storyline and soundtrack, although a rather linear playing experience. - Definitely a highlight though.

Next, the Special Ops, a neat addition and provider of many hours attempting those many missions alone, and miserably failing! This is definitely a 2 player mode and once I hooked up with a buddy, my word - It was Awesome! Many hours spent attempting those many missions till many an early hour trying to achieve that extra star, a great experience and memory!

Finally the Multiplayer, as addicting as CoD 4 or 5?
