Product Description

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 delivers an intense single-player campaign that picks up immediately following the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and escalates into World War 3. Modern Warfare 3’s also boasts its re-imagined multiplayer, featuring the series’ trademark visceral gun-on-gun combat, a revamped point streak, devastating new modes like 'Kill Confirmed', new features and a bevy of new weapons, equipment and perks.

The most epic Call of Duty game ever Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 delivers a multiplayer experience that continues to raise the bar by focusing on fast-paced, gun-on-gun combat, along with innovative new features that support and enhance different styles of play. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer, the player defines the experience through masterfully engineered Strike Package and Weapon Proficiency Systems, helping them play through the most intense multiplayer experience available.

New killstreak system

Completing game mode objectives now counts towards your pointstreak progression. For the first time ever, kills are not the only way to earn pointstreaks! For example, with a Support Strike package pointstreaks do not chain. However, streaks do not reset on death. Rewards also differ according to your strike package, so a support strike package will be more support oriented (UAV, Counter UAV, SAM turret, etc) helping your team dominate the opposition.

New weapons and proficiencies

For the first time in Call of Duty weapons have their own progression system as you gain XP through the use of a weapon, you unlock attachments, camos, reticles and weapon proficiencies. Weapon proficiencies allow you to specialise your weapon in the way you choose depending on your playing style:

  • Kick – Reduced kick for more accurate long distance shooting
  • Focus – Reduced flinch when hit for run and gun players caught in the thick of the action
  • Stability – Reduced sway when ADS for snipers

New game modes

All the fan favourite game modes make their return (Free-for-All, Team Death Match, Domination, etc.), and a series of new modes make their introduction to the Modern Warfare series:

  • Kill Confirmed – Collect dog tags from killed players. Prevent the other team from collecting yours.
  • Team Defender – Grab the flag and protect the flag carrier to increase your team’s score.
  • Drop Zone – Control the drop zone and collect care packages while the opposition try to dislodge your team.
  • Infected – One player starts infected and has to infect all the others by killing them. The opposing team meanwhile has to survive as long as possible.

Community playlists also allow players to create their own game modes and share them with their friends via Call of Duty Elite. Game modes will constantly evolve as part of the MW3 season of content running from January to September on Xbox.

I loved modern warfare 2 and black ops took a bit of getting used to but I enjoyed that. After getting modern warfare 3 I felt dissapointed. Now I do play mostly online so that is what my review will be mostly based on. The single player is what you'd expect from the cod series, massive explosions and chases. I really like the survival mode, where the player must survive waves of enemies, similar to zombie mode of black ops. However it has an arcade feel to it which I found refreshing. Sadly this was all I enjoyed of the game which is where I move to the online play.

Now this is my opinion and I would suggest renting before buying to absolutely sure this is for you.
The maps are aweful. Previous cods, its always been majority are good with 1 or 2 maps which are annoying to play. MW3 that's the other way around. I understand that the maps were designed to reduce sniper camping, which is why there are very few high vantage points. Which, ok , I understand , the flip side though since the maps are "flatter" with more twists and turns. The amount of corner rat campers are rife. As someone said in a previous review. Bullet damage is high so the campers are thus rewarded for camping. Since by the time you notice the rat camping in a bush/corner.... Your dead. The maps are maps of rubble and dust. Another major flaw is the slight lag. So many times in a firefight you think you have ducked around the corner for cover only to die. After watching the killcam it shows that you never actually got around the corner. So many times I've felt like snapping my controller. I thought maybe I was too used to black ops, but I have since prestiged 3 times and its as annoying as ever and the campers are getting worse. I will be trading in once metal gear hd collection is released

Fun:
I wasn't going to purchase MW3 because I was left bitterly disappointed by Black Ops (not that Black Ops was a poor game, it just wasn't a very good game), but after sticking on MW2 in January and realising what a good game that was, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the next installment.

My impressions a few weeks later? The Campaign mode is similar to the previous one, it's short, full of fantastic cut scenes with fine cinematics, but after the first three missions, I found the game a chore to play through. In fact the only reason I finished the game was because I wanted to see the fates of Cpt Price and Makarov (which was an anti-climax).

The Multiplayer is pretty good, the maps are smaller and it forces people into more close combat situations instead of allowing a person to sit in a building on Wasteland with a thermal scoped Intervention picking you off. The perks are mixture of perks from MW1 and MW2, so nothing new there. The weaponry hasn't changed much either, the P90 is still there, so is the Barrett sniper rifle and the Scar-H has been altered to the Scar-L. The killstreak reward system has been revamped and gives the player a lot more variety in choosing killstreak rewards, which impressed me.

All in all MW3 just feels like an expansion pack for MW2 and that's quite disappointing given the cost of the game to purchase. MW3 to me feels rushed and not quite complete, especially when you look at the gulf in difference between MW1 and MW2. When I play MW3, I get the sense that Infinity Ward had run out of ideas and decided to make minor brush ups and went with the "if it's not broken, don't try to fix it" attitude when making this game and as such I feel short changed.

MW3 is definitely worth getting if you have played the first two installments and want to know what happens to the main characters from MW2 in MW3, but other than that I would say that this game had the potential to be very good, but in the end for whatever reason(s) fell short of achieving this. 3/5 to me is a very fitting rating for this game, over and out.

If you've played MW2 and loved it then you'll love this. There are no great leaps forward in terms of gameplay or graphics - it's pretty much just more of the same. To some that's probably a disappointment but if you want more special ops missions to try or another campaign to work through or want more multiplayer maps then this is great.
