Product Description

Platform:Xbox 360  |  Edition:Standard Edition

Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops II propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.

Futuristic missions give you new weapons and scenarios to get to grips with
The CLAW is a Cognitive Land Assault Weapon that can be utilised as an in-game vehicle
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a new story with elements and characters from previous games
Attacks come from land and sky with the new quadrotor guns

Combining incredible high-dynamic range graphics and sensational new gameplay, Black Ops II sets you off on secret operations as Frank Woods – the protagonist from the original Black Ops game.

The non-linear storyline will see you battling during a futuristic Cold War, as well as tackling flashbacks from historical missions and playing as various members of the Mason family. Every decision you make during this story will affect future consequences, giving you a different experience every time you play.

With new futuristic weapons, the chance to master a number of different vehicles and modes of transport, and a mysterious villain - known simply as Raul Menendez - Black Ops II is set to be the ultimate Call of Duty game.

Beyond the Campaign

Alongside the epic Campaign and branching story is the all-new Multiplayer mode. New maps, new game-styles and new perks make this the most engaging Multiplayer yet!

The fantastic Call of Duty Elite service is provided for free alongside the action-packed game, allowing you to use a number of incredible features which will enhance and extend your Multiplayer experience.

Zombies Mode also makes a comeback with a series of challenging maps and missions that enable you to fight off the dead in even more ways.

Another year, another call of duty sequel. Once again opinion swings erratically from person to person with some swearing blind to viewpoints which others see as ludicrous. This makes it enormously difficult to review. But i'm going to anyway.

I'll focus on the multiplayer here as thats the mainstream appeal of the franchise. Zombies and the campaign are what they are. I enjoy them and if you liked them from previous call of duty titles i fail to see how you could dislike the offerings of black ops 2. I'll say i enjoyed this campaign more than the original black ops.

So, the multiplayer. As always, the usual rocks are being thrown at a fresh CoD window. 'A field day for campers,' 'bad servers', 'terrible spawning,' 'bad connection', 'requires no skill', 'the same as last year,' 'cash cow', 'terrible maps' etc etc. As far as i'm concerned, pretty much EVERY call of duty experiences these issues. I'm not saying these criticisms are simply wrong. What i am saying is that these problems are not unique to black ops 2. Certainly for me Call of Duty is becoming increasingly stale as the years go by so these criticisms are becoming louder and more commonplace. No, it will never be the way it was in the good ol CoD 4 days. A shame, but inevitable.

Anyway, i'll kick off with the maps. It's clear from the off that every attempt has been made to compartmentalise larger battlegrounds. If you plan on camping, be aware you're going to have to do it damn well or as part of a team to pull it off because there are very few areas which involve a single area which needs watching. You'll need eyes in the back of your head and a rather dull philosophy on how the game should be played to succeed at sitting around.

The 2nd installment of the Black Ops series lets you play as David Mason, Alex Mason and Frank Woods. Majority of this game is set in 2025 where you play as David Mason or Farid (One Mission) to track down and kill Raul Menendez after Alex Mason failed too kill him after rescuing Woods from the barge. Unfortunately a turn of events results in Woods killing one of the most trusted characters in the franchise after being betrayed by Manuel Noriega. This turn of events really gets the game going afterwards as everything starts becoming true to David Mason. I found it incredible especially the multiplayer and zombies modes. Without these two options the game would lack behind the original Black Ops hugely. I think.

Not comment re the single player as I've not even tried it yet - anyway, to me, the single player ISN'T why 99% of people buy this game.

Well, you know what you're getting with COD games. You'll have the folk saying it's the best game ever and then you'll have the others saying it's just the same old, same old.

I'm always somewhere in between.

I buy these games BECAUSE I know what I'm getting. It'd be stupid to make radical changes to the game as it's a tried and tested format that people like. Just look at how many people play it as proof.

Right onto a quick review of the multiplayer...

I've only clocked up a few hours so far but here are my initial thoughts :-

Graphics are very impressive.
Sound is NOT very impressive (definitely a step backwards from MW3). There's very little depth to the sound, particularly grenades and sniper rifles.
Camping? As usual, there are some players who find a nice little corner and sit there picking you off. If this is how you want to play then fair enough - but any decent player should only get caught out once by them.
Hit detection - I've not suffered any problems with this.
Class set-up is a lot more detailed and there are a lot more options.
Killstreaks have been replaced by Scorestreaks meaning assists and destroying opponents' equipment also contributes ... but the scorestreaks seem to be set higher than previously, so unlike MW3 where there always seemed to be SOME sort of killstreak affecting the game (which IMO is a good thing), the emphasis is definitely more on the simple shooting of one another.

So, in summary, it seems decent. Not ground breaking in anyway but not a let-down. If you're a fan of COD then this should only disappoint if you were expecting something fundamentally different.

This version of call of duty is the first one which is set in the future, granted the modern warfares have touched of future maybe up to 5 years in front but not this far of a distance. The game is yet again another amazingly good shot from activision, people have been complaining saying there is lag issues. However LAG is not down to the game itself, its the hosts quality of connection, maybe you guys are on about the kill registration in the game which is the only issue i am having with the game. Kill registration is the time is takes, for example if you are being shot at, its the time it takes for the kill to register on your screens. This is down to connection issues but when the connection is at full capacity the issues still stand. This problem is down to frame rate. The developers have put much work into the graphics but as the graphics improve the frame rate in which the game is run does down which produces lag. The gameplay itself is not too bad, the multi-player is a drastic move from previous cods as again it is set in the future so you have new guns, equipment, scopes and kill streaks these are all revolutionary in the cod experience. I am a cod enthusiast myself and have played from cod 3. I am myself enjoying the game, this is my opinion, but it seems to me its the people that have had no luck with multi-player because they just cannot get into it as it is so fast paced. The campaign is a great addition to the cod franchise as it continues from the previous black ops.

This call of duty is not to be disciminated against, all people with bad reviews have simply taken it down as it is a future game and is not the same old, same old.
