Product Description

Call of Duty Black Ops is a first-person shooter with stealth and tactical play aspect that puts players in the role of a shadow soldier fighting in a variety of historically representative fictional Black Ops missions of the Cold War era. Created with the input of actual Black Ops soldiers from the time, the game mixes traditional Call of Duty tactical shooter gameplay with new gameplay options designed to expand the players' experience. Additional features include extensive multiplayer options, along with new vehicles and explosive new weapons.

Follow-up to 2009’s blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops breaks new ground in the Call of Duty series and the video game industry at large by delving into the not-so cold conflicts of the Cold War.

Inspired by the experiences of real Black Ops soldiers of the era, the missions of Call of Duty Black Ops take the player to a wide variety of settings, ranging from snowbound mountain strongholds in historical Soviet held territories, to the jungles and urban settings of Vietnam War era SE Asia. Throughout all, care has been taken to maintain the traditional essence of Call of Duty style combat, while also introducing new types of player action that add to the gameplay experience. Additional features include co-op, versus and team-based multiplayer options, new vehicles like the SR-71 Blackbird and lethal new weapons such as explosive-tipped crossbows.

  • Seventh installment of the Call of Duty series, based on the live fire conflicts of the Cold War era.
  • Diverse variety of play setting ranging from urban air and ground combat in SE Asia, to snow combat in Soviet region and jungle combat.
  • Blending of traditional COD, and new first-person character scenarios designed to both retain the essence of the COD gaming experience and ensure constantly flowing and

Manufacturer's Description

Call of Duty tackles a whole new era as Black Ops plunges you into the murky height of the Cold War and history's most secretive battles. The world's most popular first person shooter places you in the most dangerous conflict zones of the late '60s.

Call of Duty dives into the secret world of the Cold War
Call in deadly attack choppers in Vietnam
Attack a Soviet outpost in the frozen Ural mountains
Use new weapons such as a Dragon's Breath shotgun

From the jungles of Vietnam to the snowy wastes of the Ural mountains, you and your team must operate behind enemy lines and using only the limited technology of the time. Luckily this includes air support such as the SR-71 Blackbird stealth plane, as well as deadly attack helicopters and armoured personnel carriers.

Like any Call of Duty game the multiplayer will set the standard for all other console games, with enhanced customisation tools, playable vehicles and a revamped scoring system.

Key Features
  • Retro Warfare: Call of Duty explodes the myths of the Cold War as you join a team of Black Ops soldiers caught up in the fight against communism in Vietnam and beyond.
  • Ammu-Nation: Use new special ammo including an explosive crossbow, Dragon's Breath flame rounds for your shotgun and a range of other period weapons.
  • Twisted Metal: Take the controls of the iconic SR-71 Blackbird as you direct operations from high above or jump into an attack chopper in Vietnam for some close-up action.
  • Online Perks: Create-a-Class 2.0 customisation tool lets you personalise your online battles even more, with new perks and revamped rules for killstreaks.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best First-Person Shooter on the Wii! 3 Feb. 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
While Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex was an admirable attempt at recreating what made the Xbox360 version good, Black Ops blows that game out of the water. The graphics are crisp and clear, the sound is perfect and the music is breathtaking. This really is a roaring rollercoaster of a ride.

For once, you're getting the same experience as the high-definition consoles. That includes a compelling storyline about conspiracy theories and secret operations, a fantastic multiplayer with up to 10 players in a match and a cool zombies mode. This is the first time that zombies mode featured on the Wii so it's a real pleasure for me to play it.

Out of the box, there are a couple of bugs and glitches. Thankfully the vast majority of problems have been fixed thanks to patches. So my advice is to patch your game as soon as you can. Online play is really the meat and potatoes of the game. As such, there is no split-screen gameplay. The Classic Controller is supported for those who don't like motion controls.

This is the perfect first-person shooter for the Wii.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 8 Jan. 2011
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I realy loved this game, I thought that after playing Modern Warfare 1 and 2 that nothing could beat it, but I was wrong. Ok maybe the graphics aren't as good as on PS3, XBOX 360 or PC and there isn't as much multiplayer killstreaks but the Wii controls are brilliant with the Wii Zapper! The last two missions where the best and it was very moving at the end. As in every single COD game the online gaming is great, they have completely changed it, now insted of earning XP points you earn money and there is a whole new gaming mode called wager matches. Call Of Duty wanted to bring back Zombie mode wich was a great success in World At War.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Job!!! 19 Feb. 2011

I just want to say what a great job they did with this game, most Importantly for me was the option of using the wii classic controller, now I can play the game for hours in COMFORT. This is like three games in one, you have the campaign, the multi-payer and zombies as well as combat-training for practise. The graphics are clear and work well considering the limitations of the wii, I was very happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game 30 Nov. 2010

I loved the last call of duty for the Wii, and at first I prefered it for online play, the online play levels are very big and at first was frustrating as I would never seem to find anyone. However I see it as a bonus from playing for a few days as it makes the online play more difficult therefore interesting!
Great game and about the only game I never get bored of!!
Buy this game!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 9 out of 10 - Probably the best FPS on the Wii 16 Dec. 2010
Platform for Display:Nintendo Wii|Edition:Standard
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The graphics are better than Modern Warfare but slightly more cartoony in terms of colour gradients which may or may not be to your taste. I'll start talking about multiplayer because that's what most people will play to get the most out of the game. I probably spent about 10 hours playing single player in COD4 whereas the multiplayer online kept me entertained for at least ten times that so this should be no different. Aside from the different game types such as deathmatch, free-for-all, demolition etc you can now play wager matches which are great fun. I've only just discovered 'sharp shooter' where you all have the same guns and they cycle every 45 seconds. The large variety of customisation makes for some fun character class building but because of the grind involved in getting the pro versions of the perks (similar to MW2 which we didn't get on Wii) you may not relish that, especially if you're going to prestige and lose them all when you've only just got a few of them. There's some good maps and the perks are actually very well balanced - no stopping power, so you'll have to get used to putting a few more bullets in to your adversary before they go down. Combat training allows you to play against AI's and setting them to the easiest difficulty might allow you to burn off some stress after an unsuccessful session against real players - Its a bit of a pain that you need to be online to use combat training, but there you go.

The single player campaign is well designed, it really weaves a tale of cold war conspiracies ably helped by some good voice performances from Sam Worthington (of Avatar fame) Ed Harris and reprising his role as Reznov; Gary Oldman.

This was a present and the person in question said it was very good and he thoroughly enjoyed using it. I would not recommend this as it is 'not my cup of tea'.

3.0 out of 5 stars Style over substance 23 Oct. 2011

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly, I'm not a rabid fan of first person shooters, but I have played COD Modern Warfare Reflex & thoroughly enjoyed both single & multiplayer. Black ops has turned out to be a major disappointment. The single player levels are tedious, with too much emphasis on the interrogation scenes & random acts of sadism. I played the first couple of levels thinking thinking it was just an intro. There are too many times that you really have no idea what you are supposed to be doing & end up dying over and over again. The much vaunted SR71 sequence is an absolute joke, and the helicopter level, whilst better than the SR71, is still a case of "what the heck am I supposed to be doin...... oh I'm dead again"!

The multiplayer is ok, but overcomplicated with Killstreaks/contracts etc. Very glitchy too - lots of "Host Ended Game" & "Connection Interrupted", usually when I'm doing well! There seeems to be more of the "one person completely dominating the game" than in Modern Warfare too.

Overall, a big disappointment - I would go for Modern warfare reflex anytime.
