Product Description

Product Description
No one can avoid DIY for ever. One day you'll look at the stained plaster, the wonky garden fence or the hole in the door where the cat-flap should be and think, 'Why should I pay someone else when I can do it myself?' It is at that moment that you have heard the Call of DIY. DIY is an inevitable fact of modern life. But it is not just about improving your home; it's also about improving your life. From wiring a plug to laying a patio, successful DIY is a state of mind. It's as much about fixing the leak as knowing how to stay sane and, above all, amused. This first-ever collection of Benjamin Mee's deliciously offbeat writing for the Guardian 'Weekend' magazine combines practicality, humour and Zen-like wisdom to equip all those who do it themselves - from the reluctant beginner to the accident-prone enthusiast - with the right attitude, and all the techniques they'll ever need.

About the Author
Benjamin Mee writes the 'Vive le DIY' column in the Guardian Weekend' magazine, formerly known as 'To DIY for'. He lives in France with his wife and two children.

Never has DIY been more fun! The book is a collection of Benjamin Mee's To DIY For columns that used to be in the Guardian. There's advice for every job from laying a concrete path to fixing fairy lights. Full of wit and laugh-out-load moments I would strongly reccomend this book for the diy enthusiast! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 28 Sep 2005
By Zorric (Horsham, UK) - See all my reviews
Anyone who has ever tried to get a tradesman to do any job at all will know how soul-destroying it is just to get anyone to turn up to give an estimate, let alone do the job in a reasonable time without charging the earth. This excellent book solves this problem for you as after having read it you will be probably be able to do the job yourself, or if not, you'll be in such a good mood that it won't seem nearly such a big deal.
The trouble is the book is so entertaining it is easy to forget about the job in hand; I was so engrossed in it that I didn't notice the shops had shut and it had gone dark. Ah well, the fence can wait and the shops will open again tomorrow......

Buy it, you won't regret it!
