The story of the Alternative W.I. Calendar (better known to most as the "Naked Ladies Calendar") by Miss October, Tricia Stewart, whose idea it was. John Baker's death from cancer devastated his friends in the small Yorkshire village of Cracoe. During his illness Tricia Stewart had joked with him about creating an "alternative" W.I. calendar - she and his wife Angela were members - and after his death they were determined to continue and give the proceeds to leukaemia research. Eleven mature women posed wearing nothing but a string of pearls and smiles. The result was a two-year rollercoaster ride as the ladies became international stars. In "Calendar Girl", Tricia Stewart writes honestly about the whole experience; the courage and strength of Angela, the strain that fame has placed on friendships and family, being doorstepped by the tabloid press, but above all the positive transforming effect the calendar has had on their lives.

About the Author
Tricia Stewart is the brains behind the Alternative WI character and has taken a lead in promoting it. She is married with two children and lives in Cracoe.

This story from the diaries of Tricia Stewart is a witty and sometimes emotional account of how a good idea can become a great success. It tells of the ups and downs associated with the media furor following the launch of the calendar and the life changing events over the past three years. The book deals sensitively with the loss of a friend to Leukaemia and the inspiration of this friend in the huge amounts of money subsequently raised for charity from the calendar sales.

Tricia writes with honesty, warmth and sincerity about her own experiences during this time.

From the beginning it reveals the changes in the characters and how 'fame' can affect us all. You feel to know each individual at the end. Lots of tears and laughter and you are never allowed to forget the reason for writing the book. WI should be proud of them.
