JT & The Clouds - Caledonia (Dishrag)
The Clouds, led by Jeremy "JT" Lindsay have been releasing music and playing shows since 2004, but generally going unnoticed in their home-city of Chicago. That's changed in the last year with the release of their "Demons/Demons" EP, which picked up glowing reviews, and prompted The Chicago Tribune to declare JT as one of its "ten artists on the verge of breaking big in 2010". Kind words indeed, but expectations have now been raised, and it's important that "Caledonia" delivers the goods.

Fortunately all concerns are dispelled as soon as the laser hits the silver. Their soulful, rootsy sound seems perfectly tailored to an audience that constantly craves new music, and is comfortable with a bit of cross genre interaction. Memphis style horns, JT's blue-eyed soul voice and a band in sync; for many that'll be enough, but add some proper big songs, delivered with passion and vim, and there's every chance they'll have a huge hit on their hands. I'm already looking forward to seeing them on the main stage at 4:30 in the afternoon at a medium size summer festival. It's up to them to fill in the details. 8/10.
