Beautiful music with a celtic tone 23 April 2002

Well away from the bluesy rock of Dire Straits, Knopfler's soundtrack work is in a league of it's own. "Cal", while short (only 35 minutes), contains many impeccably warm and serene moments - unlike many soundtracks, this CD works well even if you've never seen the film. Surprisingly, Knopfler's distinctive guitar sound and songcrafting technique transferred well into the celtic melodies found here - his diverse and adaptable technique is remarkable.

While it won't instantly appeal to the casual Dire Straits fan, the soundtrack certainly warrants listening to in its own right.

Format:Audio CD

The guitar melodies are subtle lyrics of one's mind. The short tones 'Waiting for Her' continuing in 'Meeting Under the Trees' shortly entice you away in seconds. However, the enchanting tracks 'Irish Boy', and 'The (Long) Road' convey the aura of inspirational but peaceful clarity of mind and spirit. You are sure to feel your loved one's embracement - whether near or far.... Enjoy both!
