Book Description

29 July 2011
Foreword by Gary Rhodes.

Here is a book full of delicious, simple cake recipes that are much kinder to teeth!

Free from regular sugar, the cakes are made with xylitol, also known as birch sugar. Xylitol is a natural substance made from birch bark which has a cariostatic effect that actively inhibits tooth decay.

Written in consultation with a qualified dentist, this book is ideal for those baking for (and with) young children; and for anyone who loves cakes and baking but is concerned about caring for their teeth.

Light-hearted and fun, yet extremely practical, this little volume is packed full of recipes. They range from expected old favourites such as Fairy Cakes and Butterfly Cakes to the more unusual Marigold Buns, Scented Geranium Cakes, and Courgette Cakes.

There are also plenty of tips from the Tooth Fairy on tooth care and even an 'Ask the Tooth Fairy' section which covers intriguing questions such as 'what do the fairies do with all those teeth?'

Review

I love the mix of fruity flavours and not forgetting the many British classics, which all help to inspire the mixing, whisking, baking, and of course the best bit, the eating. --Gary Rhodes

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, gorgeous recipes 17 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
Perfect - healthy but very very tasty recipes. Would recommend to anyone regardless of whether need to cook without sugar it's so refreshing to find receipes that are good for our teeth and health that don't take away the indulgent treats.

I often have to do a sugar free diet but really miss my sweet treats. Then my homeopath told me about Xylitol. Whilst browsing the web I came across this fantastic book.

I am also one of those mums who treats her child's body and teeth as a temple and don't let him indulge anywhere near the amount other children do nowadays - now I can treat him that bit more without worrying about his precious teeth and body.

It's full of interesting facts, really fun to read and most importantly yummy recipes. When I am back on sugar I will definitely be including Xylitol and this recipe book in my regular baking days.

Thanks so much Sue for creating such a fab fab book. I will be investing in some of your others very soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, great recipes! 7 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback
I love baking so I'm usually pretty picky about what cookbooks I buy, but I just adore this one. It's a great size, has cute little illustrations, and it has great recipes and tips!

I think it's great that it uses Xylitol instead of sugar, and it makes a huge difference health-wise, especially if you bake a lot like I do.

I also love that it includes both metric and imperial measurements for each recipe, it has an oven temperature conversion table and it even tells you which tins you will need for baking!

It contains traditional recipes such as Sponge Cakes, different kinds of Muffins and Cakes, but I especially like that it mixes it up a bit by including things like 'Chocolate and Courgette Brownies', 'Cheese and Courgette Muffins', 'Lavender Scones' and different kinds of Sandwiches. It even tells you how to make your own Cheese Spread which is delicious!

I definitely recommend 'Cakes from the Tooth Fairy' - healthy really doesn't have to be boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather basic 24 April 2013

The recipes are a bit simplistic - fairy cakes etc. Probably okay for a new baker but not for someone who has done it for years. I think they could have written the book in one sentence - "replace sugar for Xylitol" - as the recipes and foreword actually state use the same amount of Xylitol as you would sugar!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 12 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The recipes require xylitol.
This was not made clear before I bought it.
Xylitol costs £8.65 per KG.
It gives me diarrhoea and probably most other people.
The author justifies this by saying you shouldn't eat too much.
Well, if us foodies could do restraint, we wouldn't need low sugar recipes!,
