I couldn't put this book down. The voice of Tanya, a sexaholic, workaholic orphaned American expat living in London, sucked me in with in her irony, her twisted humor, and her ultimate vulnerability. A love story for the damaged set - a group of young refugees from a nightmare of child abuse, incest, abandonment, and murder - Cake is both funny and touching. The dialogue is stunning, Newman's quirky use of language riveting, the imagery perfect for the in-between world the lost characters find themselves in. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it had to come to an end.
