Cake decorating is a skill that anyone can master with a little guidance. In this fact-packed reference book, Rachel Brown takes the reader back to basics and proves at the same time that cake decorating really can be fun. The aim of the book is to give answers to the really basic questions that beginners often ask, such as: how do you use a frame; how do you level off a domed cake; how do you cut a dowel and how do you get a modelled figure to sit. Starting with lining tins of different shapes and finishing with making perfect wedding cakes, the book also gives detailed information on covering cakes with marzipan and sugarpaste, adding ribbons, simple piping with royal icing, creating special effects with sugarpaste and basic modelling. Rachel also gives her tried-and-tested sponge and fruit cake recipes, with gluten-, egg-, sugar- and dairy-free versions for those with specific dietary requirements. Each chapter is liberally illustrated with step-by-step colour photographs and peppered with hints and tips from Rachel's rich experience. Here, in one indispensable book, is all the information you will ever need to make and decorate the perfect cake.


About the Author

Rachel Brown is the owner of two specialist cake decorating shops in Berkshire and also lectures at a local college. Throughout her many years in the business, she has often been asked to write down her tips and experiences; this book is the result.

This book is fantastic. I bought this book from Rachels' shop in Woodley and it has been a wonderful source of information. I am new to sugarcraft and cake decoration and this book is great at "breaking down" the terminolgy with a pictorial guide of all the tools - a must have when your reading instructions on something you havn't ever done with a tool you can't visualise! There is information on the lastest products, recommendations and alternatives. Rachel has included professional tips, Don't forget tips and Thinking Ahead tips as well as receipes for a variety of cakes (inc Diabetic) and butter cream icing. Information on the best way to cut a cake, a portion guide and how much sugarpaste is needed to cover a cake makes this book a bible.

Fabulous book, which leads you though the various steps of cake decoration, covering beginners to experts. Beautifully illustrated with extremely tempting and innovative ideas and cakes.

I chose this book thanks to the excellent reviews it got from previous readers - and I have to agree with them! The book is very well layed out and easy to follow. Full of handy hints and enough detail to achieve brilliant results! Great for beginners and even more advanced cake decorators.
