I am glad there is an alternative supplier for Nespresso capsules but I think there is room for improvement. The CafeTutto capsules are made from recycled plastic and do not have the same quality look as the Nespresso aluminium originals, nor do they fit in the machine as smoothly. More force is required to break the seal when you pull the Nespresso handle down. The coffee flows smoothly though and the end result is very similar to Nespresso coffee. Nespresso has always been about the convenience and freshness and these CafeTutto capsules are equivalent.

So it comes down to price then. I buy Nespresso in boxes of 200 or more. This lasts a good few months and often gets me a discount or offer. I can buy CafeTutto online as well for a similar price but free delivery for a much smaller quantity. This might appeal to some people but I cannot see me using it.

What I would much prefer is Nespresso compatible capsules available on the high street or in supermarkets. If CafeTutto could get these pods in a national supermarket I would buy them out of convenience alone.

In the box you get a fair variety of capsules to try; Espresso, Rich Italiano; Grand Cru, Lungo and Decaff. Not sure if the quantities are the same in every box, but I had 6 of each with 2 Decaff.

This isn't a bad way of experimenting with different brands without having to commit to a larger order and worth giving them a try if you are thinking of switching over to this brand. However, the price is a bit on the high side for what is essentially a copy of the original Nespresso capsules and the price is only marginally cheaper. This wouldn't be so bad if the coffee tasted as good as Nespresso originals, but I don't think they are quite up to scratch. This could just be down to what I am used to drinking, but I did find that the taste was a little weak in the cup or a touch bitter on the tongue.

The weaker tastes could be down to the problem of extraction through the ground. I found that the plastic pod was harder to puncture and I wonder if the elasticity of the plastic caused to holes to close up slightly more than the aluminium pods used by Nespresso. This could affect the speed of water flow over the grind and thus the extraction - just a thought. I also had 1 pod crush up before it punctured, thus compacting the coffee a little more.

In terms of bitterness, 3 of the pods are blends with robusta beans, but no say as to the ratio. Robusta beans are somewhat cheaper with a bitter taste mostly used in instant coffee. Blended properly with Aribica beans and it produces a pleasant cup, but too much (to save money) and you can feel a tang on the sides of your tongue. Not a taste I prefer, but it may suit others - each to their own.

Nespresso machines are awesome, they are the Ferrari of pod machines but the original pods can be pricey, like really pricey.

CafeTutto seems to have found a nice little niche to exploit and they have done a very goood job of it.

First of, the packaging is very clever, the attached image shows how they manage to fit 25 pods into a box small enough to get through your letterbox (and thats in an amazon box as well!). A well thought out start that bodes well.

The pods themselves are, of course, the same size and shape as the original pods but with one major difference, they aren't of aluminum construction but are plastic. To be honest, this is no big deal and I can't see it making a huge difference unless you are not using your pods and keeping them on a shelf for a loooooong time. That ain't gonna happen in my house so I am cool with this.

Okay, so, the coffee itself. Well, previous reviews have listed what the taster box contains so lets talk about the taste. In a word, mmmmmm! Just as good as the originals and with really nice, almost nutty notes. Really no issues with taste.

I guess the main reason these are cheaper is the plastic rather than aluminum pod construction. Otherwise these are a very viable alternative to the originals and, if you drink a lot of coffee, then you should take a good long look at these.

Well done CafeTutto!

Nespresso capsules make great coffee, but unless you live near one of the very few Nespresso stores, you probably get your capsules from Nespresso's website. While that site is very well designed, the delivery options are not; first, there's the price of delivery and second, the fact that someone needs to be home to sign for the delivery. I don't think I need to spell out why waiting for couriers isn't a popular hobby.

CafeTutto does away with this annoyance by packing and sending the capsules in a box which will fit through your letterbox: think of the Amazon box that is used to deliver thick paperback books or a DVD boxset. So, order on Amazon and enjoy the free delivery and come home to a box of nespresso-compatible capsules.

As for the capsules themselves, unlike some other Nespresso-compatibles, these do have the same shape as Nespresso originals and come in a range of flavours and accompanying coloured capsules. Unlike Nespresso capsules, CafeTutto capsules are plastic (not aluminium).

The most important thing: the coffee tastes superb*. Just like original Nespresso-capsules, CafeTutto capsules produce a lovely, rich crema and have a full bodied flavour. The CafeTutto taster pack provides you with:
- a single decaff capsule (intensity 5, 100% Colombian Arabica)
- 6x Gran Cru (intensity 3, Colombian & Costa Rican Arabica and Indian Robusta)
- 6x Espresso (intensity 9, 100% Arabica from South America and Africa)
- 6x Rich Italiano (intensity 7, Arabica from South America and Robusta from India)
- 6x Lungo (intensity 5, Arabica from South America and Africa and Robusta from India)

* I was quite pleased that there was only 1x decaff capsule as this didn't taste good.
