5.0 out of 5 stars The original is always the best! 14 Mar 2012
By JakTrax
Format:Audio CD
This is the first duo of CDM releases, first available in 1993 and 1994 respectively. This twin-CD pack is excellent value, and features the two finest CDs in the entire CDM discography. The first disc (vol. 1) is simply sublime; starting with lazy, sunset beats before progressing towards more sinister, after-dark vibes, and finally concluding with the very appropriate 'Sunset At The Cafe Del Mar'.

The second disc (vol. 2) I find has a happier, more sunny tone, but there are still a few moody tunes to keep the balance right. Both discs for me really capture the whole atmosphere of a warm sunset - from the hazy, late-afternoon sunshine poolside, through the sunset itself and finally setting the mood during twilight for the night ahead. Both discs blend a fine selection of world influences with dreamy electronic beats, with native American and Spanish sounds featuring quite prominently.

This is the collection that defines Balearic chill, and even now - nearly 20 years later - it's still very hard to beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Origin of the Species 11 Sep 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
5 stars for the bargain as much as the music. Individual copies of both CDs are expensive and not always avaialable. I saw a copy of this exact edition in the local Oxfam record shop for £7, so this is a good deal.
If you are a fan of chillout music, then this is close to the source of it. It's the first two CDs of the Cafe del Mar chillout series, from 1994 and 1995, chosen and mixed by Jose Padilla, who was the resident DJ at the Cafe in the early 90s. The track selctions are ecelctic which was Padilla's trademark at the time. There's a nod to the cassette tapes he made and sold at the Cafe before this series with Penguin Cafe Orchestra's 'Music For A Found Harmonium'. PCO tracks were on several of those tapes.
The only information in the notes is tracklistings, but that's enough. If you need to know any more about Cafe del Mar sunsets and the growth of chillout music there's enough information n the web.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and relaxing 7 Nov 2010
Format:Audio CD
I have been listening to Cafe Del Mar for years and Cafe Del Mar Ibiza makes a great addition to my collection. A good way to start your day before heading out into the world to do whatever you do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget Ministry of Sound... 4 Jun 2013
By Davey H
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
and their 50th 'Chillout Album' release with exactly the same tracks on and get the first eight Cafe Del Mar CDs. Mixed by José Padilla, these original, unmixed albums set the standard in ambient, lounge and down-tempo music since 1994.

In this double disc pack you get Volume 1 & 2 (the albums were originally released as single volumes) and the timeless standard of quality music is perfect if you like to sit back and relax to blissful sounds.

So, in summary. Buy this. Then buy Volumes 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 (available on double discs also). Open your patio doors, windows or flap on your cardboard box when the sun is out. Stick this in the stereo and drift off to some quite oustanding music that you will fall in love with. Also works great indoors on rainy days, if you are snowed in or just kicking back on a grey Sunday afternoon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected. 15 July 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A very quiet and generally "laid-back" album that I found very relaxing and not quite what I'd expected from a CD with Ibiza in the title. If you're a fan of Armin van Buuren or Paul Oakenfeld, don't expect their kind of music here because you will be disappointed. However, it is, in my opinion, a very relaxing collection.
