The price is excellent and the content good for someone that loves
hyper modern coffeehouse styles, but I was disappointed that there were
no examples of more classic, or traditional styles of cafes. Pages after
pages are outrageous, ultra modern cafes, but none like Viennese or romantic
or clean.

Great for Inspiration!

A friend wants to open a coffee shop so i sent them this book after picking up a copy for myself. High quality photos, great layout, quality look and feel...very reasonable price. It arrived as a "better than expected" choice. It is small...perhaps 6 x 10...but that's ok cuz it's about an inch or so thick with gobs of high gloss photos. [...]

Too esoteric for the average would-be cafe owner

Although the book was enjoyable to thumb through -- and some of the designs really ARE spectacular! -- I wish I hadn't actually purchased it. I'm not a design student, just someone fantasizing about owning a cafe someday and wondering what it might look like. I bought this book for inspiration, but ended up feeling like the ideas were mostly out of reach. Sure, I could hire a team of designers (and who knows, I may even do that someday), but I wanted to see cafe interiors and exteriors that regular people can create -- places that welcome the public, that are fresh or funny or cozy, etc., but not necessarily so flashy they should win awards.
This is not to steer readers away from the book. But future cafe owners may not need anything quite this dramatic to get their creative visions flowing.
Also, I only gave it 2 stars because I wanted considerably more text; the book consisted of almost nothing but pictures. In all, it seemed to me more like something that would be assigned in a school of design than a book for potential cafe owners or the general public.

Very good book for cafe and coffee shop design

This is a very nice book for anyone interested in designing small food/beverage facilities. It features beautiful, full-color photographs and many plans. The format of the book is small (5" x 7.5"), but the image quality is good and the binding seems strong. There is very little text, so you'll need additional books to provide the solid information, but the pictures and layouts in this volume are an excellent source of inspiration.
