DVD Description

Acclaimed as "one of the greatest songwriters of the century"

In this concert, from the Metropolitan in Rio de Janeiro, Caetano Veloso sings classic Hispanic songs from the 1940s and "50s that have been in his life since he was a child, but presented in his unique style. Many of these songs featured on the two best-selling albums of Veloso"s career, "Fina Estampa" and "Fina Estampa En Vivo", as well as "Cucurrucucu Paloma" which he sang on Pedro Almodovar"s hit film "Talk to Her" in 2002. He also performs some of his own compositions. Literally translated "fina estampa" means "small print", but undoubtedly Veloso had the phrase"s idiomatic meaning in mind: If you have "fina estampa" it means you cut an elegant and refined figure "an apt description of the Brazilian singer himself. Veloso appears with an orchestra conducted by his long-serving musical director Jaques Morelenbaum, who features on cello for several numbers. The line-up includes Zeca Assumpçao (double bass), Mingo Araújo (percussion), Luis Brasil (guitar), Jota Moraes (piano), Marcelo Costa (drums) and Rodolpho Cardoso (marimba). A charismatic live performer, Veloso sings several acoustic numbers that highlight the gentle, seraphic quality of his voice.
