Reviews

Harold Ramis's directorial debut is a hysterical farce set at the typically hoity-toity Bushwood County club. A send-up of the typical class struggle, it pits the caddies against the establishment with riotous results. This wacky comedy features insanely funny performances from Bill Murray, as the local groundskeeper obsessed with killing off the gophers who are infesting the golf course, as well as Chevy Chase as a wealthy antiestablishment member of Bushwood and Rodney Dangerfield, who shines as a land-shark real estate mogul who couldn't care less about the rules and regulations at the snobby club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf... Only Fun! 4 July 2004
Format:DVD
There are only two reasons why Golf is a worthwhile sport. They are 'Happy Gilmore', and this film.

Starring a stellar 80's comedy cast this is film is great fun, and even stands up to this very day. Similar to many 80's comedy films (like the 'National Lampoon's Vacation' series and 'Animal House') this features plenty of humour, some crude, and attractive women, topless!

In all seriousness this is a very funny and good film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Caddyshack (Blu-ray) 1 April 2011
Format:Blu-ray
Just to clear up a few points with regards quality of the Blu Ray version.

It is better quality than DVD, DVD has some real problems with contrast and colour at times, sound is passable, but there are several points where whoever filmed the move couldn't be bothered cleaning the lens!

Blu Ray has resolved most of the colour/contrast problems, sound is dolby 5.1 & pretty good, playback is 1080p and to me it looks like a re-work from the origional film. Upscaling tends to cause noticable artifacts, haven't noticed them yet. Unfortunatly the dirty lens shots haven't been fixed. But in saying that, its a 30 year old cult movie that was never a blockbuster.

Still an amusing movie, worth £7 on blu ray.

4.0 out of 5 stars Harold Ramis is a GENIUS! 25 July 2000
Format:DVD
I bought this DVD yesterday, having enjoyed "Caddyshack II" and vaguely remembering bits of this one. I must admit - the film is absolutely hilarious! I can't really describe it's highlights through fear of spoiling it for everyone. Bill Murray is great as the dopey, Gopher-hunting Carl Spackler and Rodney Dangerfield's role as Al Czervik raises many laughs at the expense of Judge Smails (played by Ted Knight). Prude old ladies, hyperactive young caddies, pompous rich 'high-society' snobs, gophers... none of them are safe from Caddyshack's jokes. One brilliant film!

Only one moan - surely they could've at least fit one special feature onto the disc á la "Blazing Saddles"?

5.0 out of 5 stars classic film and Blu ray gives sooooo much more.
I won't review the movie,, its a classic. Not belly laughs but subtle humour with Dangerfield romping away with the limelight and the thinking humour being left to Chase. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Gunga Galunga - A big hitter the Lama!
One of my favourite comedies. It looks great on BD considering its low budget and age and if you're a fan of the film, the extras are worth owning. Be the ball Danny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to re-watch
Fun to re-watch, I don't exactly recall it being so focussed on sex and drugs when I watched this as a kid, but I must have had my priorities mixed at the time.
