As pretty much everyone one else, I got into Cachaito through Buena Vista. I saw them earlier this month and was so impressed by the bass playing that I bought this without knowing any of the songs. Its really interesting. Tracks 2 and 3 are smoother than a lot of the sometimes cloying (blasthemy i know) BVSC. Wahira with Ibrahim Ferrer is absolutely wonderful - understated perfection. The rest is more difficult to describe. Track 5 has scratching on it and to be honest, DJ Shadow doesn't need to look over his shoulder. Much of the rest is heavily jazz-inspired, which i love, but if jazz (Mingus, Davis especially) isn't your bag then think twice before buying it. Subtle strings make this album for me but if you want something closer to BVSC then buy Ibrahim Ferrer's album or Ruben Gozalez, Introducing... It's definatley growing on me though.
