John Bullar's book provides the reader with jargon-free basic skills for making furniture and to this end he largely succeeds. Pared back text and very good in-focus detail shots of marking out, measuring, and joint cutting get the message across. There is introductory material on timber selection, choice of hand tools and the safe use of woodworking machinery followed by ten graded step-by-step projects that allow you to practice and perfect the techniques discussed. A good self-teaching book that covers all the techniques and gives advice on using tools to obtain the best results.
