The London cast album of CABARET has long been a collector's item in North America. The original Lp was only available here as a import through specialty stores, and with Judy Dench appearing as Sally Bowls interest in the recording increased over the years.
Sony West End issued it (briefly) on CD in the U.K. and Canada in the mid 1990's - and copies of that edition still show up, usually greatly overpriced.
If you really want this item on CD, Masterworks Broadway has just re-released itCabaret
at a much more reasonable price.
As an alternate to the original Broadway cast version, this is interesting but not nearly as well sung and performed.
Both CD editions reprint the liner notes from the original LP. The Sony West End edition, however, gives incorrect timings for every track. This is not something that affects most listeners, but as a producer of radio program featuring Broadway music, the timings should be accurate. One track is listed as 4:07 and is actually only 1:48. The new Masterworks Broadway edition has the right timings.
