In 1968 CBS laid down tracks that were pure gold. The per cursor to Chicago, kander and Ebb wrote their wonderfully political yet understated masterpiece, Cabaret. I ask all listensers to forget Liza Minelli as they hear Judi Dench perform with such raw emotion and such minute detail to pronunciation of lyrics. It literally makes my hair stand up each time I hear her utter those immortal words "life is a cabaret old chum", you completely agree with her!! (and that is theatrical power)
This CD is extremely rare as vendors point out. I have scoured charity shops far and wide looking to see if some copy resides along side the various 'Vivaldi' and 'Tom Jones classics' albums to no avail.
I am lucky enough to have (yesterday) found a car boot sale copy. I would seriously treat yourself to this CD but if you are gulping at the price all i could say is do it! and as Dame Judi says..."dont tell mama". Seriously this is the west end at somewhat of a peak!
