Reading this for the first time put me in mind of the balance between the writings of Alighieri Dante and the art work of Giovanni Boccaccio. The deep understanding of catholic dogma is illustared with punch and guts by Dom, which using only black and white images forces the reader to impart there understanding on the subject. With the pop references to Dr.who et al, and a strong sense of time and place, the pages fly by. But the area in which it sets itself truly apart is that you really care for the main chareters.
