Product Description

When three young farmworkers die suddenly of a brain disease, the Medical Research Council feels compelled to investigate. Dr Ian Bannerman, consultant pathologist and expert on brain disease, is sent to make discreet enquiries. But in north-east Scotland, Bannerman finds plenty of cause for alarm - and terror.

He discovers a brainless corpse in an Edinburgh morgue; a dead man at the foot of a Hebridean cliff; suspicious local farmers; threats from the nearby nuclear power station - and more horrifying evidence of the disease. But what is the cause? A deadly virus that has crossed the species barrier - or a murderous conspiracy of men?

Either way, human life is increasingly under threat. Especially Bannerman's . . .

Ken McClure is the internationally bestselling author of over twenty medical thrillers such as The Lazarus Strain, The Gulf Conspiracy, White Death and Dust to Dust. His books have been translated into twenty-three languages and he has earned a reputation for the accuracy of his predicitions. McClure's work is informed by his background as an award-winning research scientist with the UK's Medical Research Council.

This book was first published by Simon & Schuster Ltd. (UK) in 1993.

A great read 26 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I almost did not download this book after reading one of the reviews regarding the lack of proof reading and am so glad I gave the book the benefit of the doubt. Admittedly, there are a few missing quotation marks and the very rare missing letter, but nothing at all to the extent implied in the review.

The plot and characters are excellent making it a gripping read: I finished it in one sitting and to be honest had to concentrate to find any proof reading errors I was so involved in the story.

Give it a go, there's little chance of being disappointed.

...I couldn't tell, I got no further than 20 pages, it was not easy.
I'm a Ken McClure fan, I really am, but the lack of proofing on this is horrific.
To me, this looks like someone ran an old manuscript through a scanner, did a bit of OCR and published the result.

"cl" become "d" (common ocr thing), so "when the sea is calm and dear sky"...?
Closely followed by "the sky was seldom dear"...? wth?
"I" becomes "1"
Random stuff missing like "if s too late"

I get this is a 20 year old book, I get there's a boom in ebooks, I don't get why a class author would publish something from his back catalogue that might be brilliant but is so badly done, you can't tell.

Sorry Ken, I'll be sticking to the new stuff...

Rivetting! 16 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm new to Ken McClure and only chose this 'cos it was a free Kindle thriller. I couldn't put it down! Thrills, puzzles and a bit of romance. Twists and turns with surprises and a thought-provoking end. Very few spelling/grammar/spacing errors. I'm ordering more.
