However, versatility is not the only reason to choose TEAC. A tri-band digital tuner allows digital broadcasting while the 25W + 25W amplifier delivers a spectacular yet succinct sound quality. Video outputs in both S-Video and composite video from an iPod docking station complete the audio-visual experience perfectly. Once you tune in to your favourite DAB station, you will experience an almost unparalleled clarity and quality of sound.

I bought this from a different source but I must let everyone know about the HUM. Not a small hum. Nothing like a an old CRT TV or fridge but if you have a quiet lounge/sitting room/study this will annoy the bits out of you. I have sent this back as this background noise is unacceptable from a manufacturer such as TEAC. Another problem that I have found is that the remote control feels badly made. The buttons on it are flexible. They move around instead of a nice solid, straight in and out motion. The control knobs on the front of the machine are not solidly fixed in the casing as they have the tendency to also 'move around'. The sound is OK. The inputs are OK. The ergonomics, though, are not OK. If you are looking for something for your teenage son or daughter's bedroom this is the kidda but if you are looking for a unit to replace your old Hi-Fi then look elsewhere and pay the extra for the extra detail.

Mostly this is a good bit of kit, but there are some annoying issues, mostly around DAB.

There is a delay compared with the 4 other DAB radios I have in the house, so you can't have this and another on at the same time. The display settings default back to multiplex name when the machine is switched off and on. The number buttons on the remote can't be used for DAB presets only AM/FM presets.. Why? And also the remote is sluggish with a very narrow angle of operation.

The sounds good, but how hard would it have been to get the other things right?

What a great piece of kit, and great value too. Very solidly built, like a true separate, not plasticy like a budget mini system. Clear display, good sound, no hum, easy to use - bought for a true techno-duffer so it had to be! I connected up some old (but good) 8 Ohm Technics speakers and no problems (note that your speakers need to be 6 Ohm minimum). Good connectivity, 2 x aux input on rear. DAB very clear. Great for playing the TV through too. I paid extra for 1-2 day delivery, ordered Thursday from Hughes Direct via Amazon, arrived the following Monday at stated time slot, in good condition. It was such a nice unit that I was reluctant to leave it with recipient. I might have to treat myself to one....
