Lithium Ion Polymer rechargeable battery for the TIKKA2 - ZIPKA2 line of headlamps

Designed for the TIKKA 2 - ZIPKA 2 line of headlamps, the CORE battery offers an advantage over regular batteries. It is very easy to insert and can be charged via any standard USB charger:a cell phone charger, a multimedia device, cigar lighter charger, or even a solar panel, a portable energy source, a computer,etc.

Excellent performance at low temperatures, thanks to Lithium Ion Polymer technology.

With the OS by Petzl software, the user can customize headlamp performance in a number of ways:for example, to adapt the lighting intensity or battery life to the type of activity.

  • Compatible with the entire TIKKA2 - ZIPKA2 line of headlamps
  • Battery life is equivalent to that of more than 900 type LR03/AAA batteries:the CORE battery recharges up to 300times (beyond that, its capacity is approximately 30% lower than its initial capacity)
  • Compatible with all standard USB chargers (cell phone charger, multimedia device, cigar lighter, solar panel, portable energy source, computer,etc.)
  • OS by Petzl software personalizes the functioning of the headlamp according to the needs or the type of activity.
  • This software is used to determine the type of lighting: when regulated, the light intensity remains constant during use; unregulated, it diminishes progressively to optimize battery life. It then becomes possible to adjust, in a very intuitive way and with only a few clicks, the battery life or the lighting level (maximum or economic mode) as needed.
  • Exclusive mounting system allows the battery to be integrated directly into the TIKKA2 - ZIPKA2
  • Excellent performance at low temperatures, thanks to Lithium Ion Polyme

The Petzl Core rechargeable battery whether bought as part of a package Petzl Tikka XP Core or as an addition to a head torch you already own such as Tikka XP 2 is an excellent choice for those people seeking a more reliable and flexible solution to powering your petzl head torch.

You can set your power profiles according to your activity need and change it as easily as plugging it in to your laptop and letting the configuration utility fire up and auto detect it. Charging it couldn't be easier given the ubiquitous global presence of USB and the battery really does seem to last as long as you choose it to. Finally if you do ever run out of power on the move then a PowerTraveller PowerMonkey-Explorer Portable Charger - Yellow will sort you out or failing that in emergencies just remove the Core battery pack and drop in your chosen shop bought batteries.

My major concern, given I use it as head torch would be that the battery pack would be too heavy and although it is a little heavier than the batteries its in no way a problem and if anything the overall weight of my pack has dropped due to the capacity of the Core and the fact I don't need spares any more. Furthermore i think that this battery pack will pay for itself in battery savings in as little as at most a dozen charges or less depending on the type of batteries you were buying.

In my opinion it's a cheaper, greener, easier, lighter and a simpler solution than carrying packs of batteries around and must for any prospective or current Petzl user regardless of the specific purpose you have in mind for it.

The functionality is wonderful and the programable/ reusability of the Core drew me to buy the battery. It is easy to program, and it's extremely helpful to have it charge off of USB.

The battery fit so well in the headlamp that I mistakenly thought it would be waterproof. Sadly, the first time my headlamp was dipped into a pool of water, the Core battery stopped working. The headlamp survived, but the battery is dead and I am sad.

Do not use this for caving or other things that will involve water.

This batter is for a few specific lights made by Petzl. If you have or want one of the lights it fits in then great.

It has software that will come with it to help you control the performance of the light.

One of the main reasons I purchased the CORE battery was because of its alleged ability to be managed and optimized via the Petzl OS software.

Unfortunately, the software doesn't work. At all. I've tried on multiple computers, running various versions of Windows (XP and 7), and the problems range from the software hanging during the install process but never completing on one machine, to installing but then not doing anything (not recognizing the battery) on another.

I'm really disappointed in Petzl for releasing this buggy piece of not-ready-for-primetime beta. Don't buy a CORE, unless you just want a run-of-the-mill rechargeable battery.

I'm giving it 2 stars, because it's just a battery (and an expensive one, at that), and not a "smart" battery, as advertised.
