5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best A+ resource ..., 10 Jan 2008
By N. Clay "noel_robert_clay" (england) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
At first glance the size of this book is a bit daunting, but that's largely down to the reader-friendly format of pictures, tables and diagrams that accompany the text, and the fact that the book takes the time to explain and often repeat itself. In the end it took me about three weeks to work through it, doing a chapter a day. This book was my main resource while learning, and I just passed the A+ Essentials exam.

The chapters of the book are not laid out in format of the A+ exam domains, but follow their own layout which actually makes a lot more sense when learning. The first two chapters are an introduction, then there are eight chapters covering components, four chapters about operating systems, two chapters dealing with networks and then the final chapters each deal with security, notebooks, printers and professional conduct.

The exam objectives for the Essentials, 602, 603 and 604 exams are all printed at the beginning of the book, and throughout the book the sections which are relevant to the Essentials and 602 exams are highlighted (but for some reason not the sections which are relevant to exams 603/604). Most of the book is relevant to both exams.

Nothing came up in the Essentials exam which was not covered in this book. To be honest you probably won't need anything else to revise for that one, but I just noticed here on Amazon there is a resource kit available which includes this book, flash cards and computer-based training (and only slightly more expensive). You might want to check that out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bible for an A+ beginner, 6 Mar 2007
By D. Rennie - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have recently started to study for the A+ certification with another text book. However this proved to be very difficult as it plunged straight into the details of what makes a computer work. Jean Andrew's book, however, provides plenty of background information in an easily understood manner without giving too much detail that would possibly confuse a new student.

The glossary and table of acronyms also provide a useful aid to this beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding book, 28 May 2007
This is an outstanding book to study whether you are an experience computer engineer or new to the business.
If you are serious about learning computers
in depth don't waste your time and money on any other book.

If ONLY SHE DID A BOOK LIKE THIS ON LAPTOPS I WOULD BUY ONE STRAIGHT AWAY, SHE IS THE BEST.
