This was bought as replacement for my previous [identical] model that had worn out through constant use. I had forgotten just how fast and efficient the chopping action really is until I used the new replacement [the bearings on the original had been slipping for ages]- one large onion peeled and cut into quarters is finely and evenly chopped in seconds. I cook a lot of curries and other dishes such as bolognese and chilli con carne that are really enhanced by having finely cut onions. It is a chore to do it by hand and I too frequently slice my thumb at the same time! This really speeds it up and it does the same for celery, carrots, mushrooms, you name it. The only thing that requires caution is fresh peppers that are reduced to mush in a trice if you use high speed. Curry sauces are blended in no time - but do be careful not to add too much liquid as it will spurt out of the top.
I have a full sized food processor which, though it gets a lot of use for coarse chopping, bulk purees and [I knoew some will shudder - but I rate it - pastry] does not do the jobs that this does as quickly or evenly. Highly recommended.
Note: you need the motor too, my original is still going strong at present.
