4.0 out of 5 stars A full list of the titles 25 May 2011

This 23-film collection has a total running time of nearly four and a half hours, and is made up of documentary, propaganda, and recruitment films.
From 1946, the first film of the collection "Victory Parade" shows troops from across the British empire arriving in London to celebrate victory over the Nazis. Made in 1985, the last film "Tornado" features a team of Tornado pilots re-enacting a military training exercise.

"Men Of The World" is a short but interesting 10-minute documentary, which features British troops on and off duty, stationed in places including Malta and Suez, firstly we see the pursuit of leisure activities including polo and sailing, then in the blink of an eye we find ourselves following soldiers patrolling in the Malay jungle, facing the dangers posed by snipers.

The 1950 film "Out Of The Groove" is a very twee recruitment film for the Women's Royal Army Corps (WRAC). In the 1961 recruitment film "Military Policeman" the aim is to entice 15 to 17 and a half year olds with images of learning to drive, riding motorbikes, and playing football, one parachuting scene is accompanied by the brief strains of a rock and roll soundtrack!

The BFI have yet again raided the central office of information archives to good effect, to provide a selection of films which I found to be an interesting collection.
The films have been remastered, picture and sound quality are good.

Here is a list of the films with brief details:
