When my ancient but much-loved dvd player gave its last gasp I made the decision to upgrade to blu-ray.
The one thing that concerned me was the multi-region capability. I really didn't want to go through the rigmarole of converting a new player to multi-region capacity myself, but have discs from all around the world, so obviously needed something that could handle all of them.
Thankfully this LG BD630 fitted the bill precisely. It is supplied fully converted to multi-region out of the box, so it is literally just plug in and play. Have so far tried out dvds from regions 0, 1, 2 (both PAL and NTSC), 3, 4 and 5 and got excellent results. Ditto blu-ray regions A and B. And it can handle DVD-R no problem.
The only slight drawback is that while multi-region dvd playback is automatic (insert the disc and the device sorts out the region) you need to manually switch from one blu-ray region to another. However, this seems to be a common experience with all makes of blu-ray player and it is only a very minor inconvenience.
Picture and sound quality far exceeded my expectations.

The quality of the picture from this is the best I've ever seen.
It plays ANY region of DVD from around the world.
It plays ANY region of Blu-Ray from around the world
It plays CD-r, DVD-R, USB memory sticks, almost anything!
The initial screen asks what you want to play (ie. Movie - DVD, photos, DVD-R etc)
Unlike my other DVD player (Toshiba RDXV60, that is very slow at loading the DVD and selecting anything from the DVD menu), this LG is made to be as quick as possible at loading the disc and playing whatever you choose from the disc menu as quick as possible. That feature alone is superb, as slower DVD players can be annoying when they take a while everytime to click on an option on the menu. This LG does not have that problem at all! It is remarkably quick.
PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT record. It is a player only. If you want to record anything from TV or DVD etc,. this unit will not do it for you (this is why I have the Toshiba as well - as that's the best-quality DVD/VHS/HDD recorder, in my opinion) but this LG unit is the best player!
So worth buying as long as you are sorted for recording things with another unit or if you never record anything.

This is my second player from this vendor and at a much better price! Just glad I decided to pick a second one up. Overall the product quality is about what you'de expect from a product usually sold in the US - a bit 'tiny' but what can you expect for such a good price. I'd certainly recommend it.
