Welcome to a new way of experiencing your music. Welcome to the Cocktail Audio X10.The Cocktail Audio X10 is a new type of device that contains many functions within one, compact casing. In a nutshell, the X10 has the following functionality.1. Built-in CD player2. Built-in 60 watt amp4. Networking and music streamer (wi-fi optional via USB dongle)5. Internet radio and recording6. USB host for connecting an iPod/iPhone or MP3 player7. Line input for recording analogue sources8. Line and optical outputs plus headphone socket9. 3.5" colour screen and full remote control. Mix sound quality with storage space by choosing between MP3, FLAC, OGG or WAV encoding options. MP3 will give you the most storage capacity but is the lowest quality. WAV and FLAC are the highest quality but take up more space - especially WAV. OGG is a good compromise between the others. LISTEN TO INTERNET RADIO AND STREAM FROM OTHER DEVICESAs standard, the X10 comes with a LAN connection for connecting to your home network hub. As an option, you can get a USB wi-fi dongle. Once connected you have access to literally thousands of Internet radio stations.WELL CONNECTEDWith a built-in 60 watt amplifier, you can simply connect up some speakers and you're ready to go. Alternatively, use the line output or digital optical out to connect the X10 via your existing hi-fi. There are also twin USB hosts on the rear letting you connect a wi-fi dongle AND USB media device. Finally, a headphone socket completes the comprehensive socket line up.

The X10 is a v.good music box. The little black box, about the size of a mouse mat and about 4in high.Just load your cd's then you will never need them again, you can select by artist, by album or by title. You can make your own play lists too ( 10 in all). With a 2tig hard drive fitted, you can store 20,000 cd's in an mp3 format. I am not using it but it's got internet radio as well. Kicks out 20 watts to your speakers or plug it in to your hi-fi. All in all it's a 10 out of 10.
I am Really impressed with this little unit I bought it bare as I decided to fit a hard drive 2tb myself i was a bit sceptical but it was really easy to do and I saved myself a few pounds in doing so. Infact so impressed I have just brought another one for my parents for a Xmas present and will do the same again fit a hard drive myself. I have this unit connected to a Bose system and it sounds superb the Internet radio is also a great feature. I have had the unit a few days now but i can't fault it or the delivery from the seller. I would recommend buying a good quality RCA to 3.5mm lead especially if you are intending to connect it to a stereo . I Hope you find this review helpful as I am not normally one to review things.
I have just purchased one of these units, and wish I had taken a longer look at feedback from other buyers. Build quality is flimsy and software very clunky. The onboard equaliser simply does not work, and, as such, renders the unit almost unlistenable for some types of music. A great idea poorly executed, and unit will be returned.
I was interested in a similar product by Brennan, but found this to do everything the Brennan can do and more, at less cost. Very easy to start learning the various functions and produces a very good sound with my existing Mission speakers that were connected to a Denon intergrated amplifier. This is a brilliant standalone device and I am well pleased with its performance.
I have had my X10 for a few months and thanks to the regular monthly firmware updates, it is now developing into a very usable machine. Cocktail Audio run a very good forum at [...] that listens to users views, which usually results in them being implimented in firmware updates, an example being gapless playback in the next update. I bought my X10 without a HDD. This then allowed me to buy a quality 1gb HDD of my choice from Amazon at a £50 overall saving.
I bought the X10 without a hard drive about a month ago. I installed a 2TB drive myself, which is very easy to do, and saves about £60.Its a good looking unit, a bit plasticy, but solid enough, and the screen is bright and clear. As others have commented the printed manual is very poor and out of date. First step, download the latest one from Cocktail Audio's website. The English still isn't brilliant, but it covers more topics, most importantly the web interface (GUI) It is a big help if you can get to grips with this as it is ideal for editing the data on your ripped CD's. Believe me, you will need to edit it too! I bought the Wi-Fi dongle which makes it a lot better to access the Freedb website, but some of the tags are wrong, and Genres particularly are often way out. If you don't notice this when you rip a CD it's quite easy to edit after ripping using the web interface once you get used to it( which can take some practice) I have ripped over 300 CD's up to now to WAV format. The sound quality is very good through my hi-fi amplifier, and with the large capacity on the hard drive, I have hardly dented it yet. The internet radio facility is a big plus, I use it a lot. In conclusion, if you put a lot of time and effort into getting things right, it IS worth it in the end. Also if you get stuck and frustrated, and you will, the user forum is very informative. I was by no means an expert when I first bought the X10, but after a few weeks of toil, I think I know it well now! It has "hung" on me once or twice, and I had to switch it off from the mains to get it to reboot and work again, and have also had to recover the database twice.... Hopefully in the next firmware update they will improve the format so that I can go from Artist to Album to Track, at the moment it goes straight from Artist to Track, which is annoying. In conclusion, I think 4 stars is a fair rating from me. Improve the manual, sort out the issue with the hierarchy and I would consider 5 stars. Good luck all potential buyers, and happy listening!
UPDATE: Regarding the issue I had with accessing albums by artists. I have found that if you go to Setup...Music DB...Display Mode...Discography...OK on the remote control, when you click on an artist it will list the albums. Still giving 4 stars until the manual is updated and includes advice such as this (in good English!)Read more ›
Exceeds all expectations. Device is small, wellmade and a joy to use. Ripping is fast and the Music database rarely fails to identify the CD - only problem I've had has been with copies made for car use and some from cassette and vinyl. Internet radio is a revelation-I was obviously aware of internet radio but this makes it easy. The Forum is good and is a must: my queries have been very quickly answered. Particularly pleasing is the section where suggestions for Firmware revision are requested and hopefully will be incorporated in due course. There are a few quibbles with the Sort options, but these will probably be sorted in the next Firmware issue. ie. sorting by Artist puts up all the tracks ripped but not the Albums which for me would be more useful. I recommend the Cocktail x10's WiFi dongle - one n-type I had, I could not get to work, but the Forum indicates other people have managed this. So: one very satisfied customer.
