Original HP supplies

Ink is much more than just coloured water; the unique, hi-tech formula for HP ink is designed to work with all the mechanical parts of the print cartridge, and the printer itself, to deliver high quality results across a wide range of papers, in a variety of environmental conditions.

Why Original HP Inks?

It takes up to three years to develop new inks, so a huge amount of work goes into producing Original HP Inks, from the selection of superior ingredients to precision engineering of both the chemical formula of the ink and the high-performance ink cartridge components.

The print cartridge itself is the product of years of research and development and is much more than just an ink tank. The integrated print head on an HP cartridge includes an intelligent circuit that controls the hundreds of nozzles, each finer than a human hair, which deliver the ink onto the page. Each drop of ink is fired onto the page on the back of a tiny vapour blast of heat 7 times the intensity of the sun that lasts for just two millionths of a second; this energy blast exposes the ink drop to forces up to one million G's. Some of the latest Original HP ink cartridges can deliver in excess of 29 million drops per second.

In many of HP's home printers, over 50 percent of the printing technology is contained within the cartridge itself; which means every time you replace your Original HP Ink Cartridge you are installing a brand new print engine. Original HP Inks are developed in conjunction with HP papers to ensure maximum compatibility and performance. The result is the perfect balance of colour, permanence and reliability.

I bought the HP Envy 100 ePrinter in January having read lots of reviews and done a fair amount of research, I needed it for my home office and its size and looks appealed. I knew it was not a great photo printer but I was intending to use it for general office printing and scanning and the email print option seemed like a good idea as did the iphone print capabilities.

Out of the box it does not disappoint in terms of looks. It is fairly simple to set up. The paper tray is not great, it is fiddly to remove and requires filling regularly and the ink carts are expensive to buy from HP and die quickly.

The wireless set up works pretty well and is fairly intuitive to get going. However on my first set up, the printer kept telling me that there was a print alignment problem. The support for this product in the UK from HP is practically non-existant and I ended up resetting my country to USA and then I was able to live chat with a tech guy who told me my printer was broken and I should return it to Amazon.

Very disappointed to have to pack it all up and have UPS collect it, but Amazon sent a new one and this time it seemed to work, until I ran out of ink, then I had the same alignment problem PLUS when I replaced the cartridges with HP ink, the printer decided that I was using non-HP ink and then announced on the screen that it was voiding my warranty! A full reboot and it seemed to calm down and accept the ink and then accept that the alignment was OK again. Very frustrating and time-consuming. HP seem to have gone to town on protecting themselves from fake ink cartridges but the printer is set to be so sensitive that it is really not sure what ink it has!

The email printing has never worked (on either printers). The set up takes you so far before telling you to wait for it to print a set up sheet, I once left it to work on this ovenight and 12 hours later still had no sheet! [NB: on my THIRD printer I got this working!)

The scanning works really nicely as you would expect with the interface from the desktop application being easy to use. However, I never managed to make the scanner work from the actual Envy 100 itself - so unless you have a laptop you can bring to the Envy 100 or you are sat right next to the Envy 100 you will have to go back and forth to swap pages over which is a tedious ritual.

The final problem with this printer is the top is made of GLASS, which is totally unnecessary, Perspex would have sufficed and would look as good. I came down to find that a small box of pens had fallen of a shelf and onto the top of the Envy 100, the glass top must have pretty much exploded (like a cheap Ikea glass!) and left shards of glass everywhere. Once again, I called HP and managed to talk to their Newcastle call centre who said there was no support for this problem and no spares. I ended up buying a refurb one (as I had £300 worth of ink to use) so I still have this printer BUT a massive disappointment in all for the money they are asking.

I wanted to love this printer but I cannot recommend it:
HP support need a lot more help with their customer experience in the UK regarding tech support for this printer.
Also, I had also requested some used printer cartridge return envelopes which they send via and online form. 12 weeks later and I am still waiting...

I also own a Canon printer and I would probably go back to Canon in future, the build quality is superior as is tech support.

2.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant... When it works. 22 Jan 2011
I purchased the HP Envy primarily because I needed a slim line multifunction device for a small home office with minimal space. I deliberated for a long time before buying and checked various products and reviews before making my choice. To date, I'm not happy.

The printer looks great and I'm happy with the print speed and quality, (not the best for photos, but I wanted it specifically for documents and simple admin tasks and it's performance is spot on.) However, despite being one of the printers offered on Apple's website, it doesn't seem to get on particularly well with Macbooks. It joined my wireless network with no problems, I registered it on line and I can print and scan no problem when controlling things from the laptop. However, the scan from printer option keeps failing to work - you simply get a very annoying message telling you it's possible to scan to your computer direct from the printer panel if the software is set up. (It is.) I've had to uninstall and reinstall four times now - each time it works immediately afterwards but fails again when I go back a few days later.

Secondly, the much talked about ePrint feature is absolutely useless. Again, you get it set up, then return a few days later to find it says ePrint 'On', yet there is no longer an email address for the printer and any emails sent receive an error message. To get it back, you have to disable then re-enable the web settings and, of course, this then issues a brand new email address and you have to register all over again.

Finally, perhaps the most annoying part is the HP website. Nearly all the support info is geared towards Windows PCs - there is very little for Mac. In order to email someone to seek help, you have to enter the serial number and product number from your printer. No problem right? Except that the product number accepted on the website is not the product number on the printer. I eventually had to ring a random HP number, (customer services isn't open on a weekend) to find out that I needed to put a 'B' at the end. Thanks. Incidentally, should anyone need it, the product number is in fact CN517B.

I'm now awaiting (hopefully) some assistance from HP to sort this out. Perhaps I just have a faulty model, but I suspect this is yet another case of a product being released before it is bug free and a number of drivers and firmware may yet be needed to sort this out. My advice is not to buy until HP have got their finger out and polished the functionality as much as the glossy exterior and fancy packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent wifi printer 26 Jan 2011
I very nearly didn't buy this printer after reading several negative online comments! However, having finally decided to buy it, I am absolutely delighted with it. Wifi set-up was a breeze and the wifi functions work faultlessly both from my iMac and from the iPad. For iPad apps that don't have a print command you can send print jobs to the printer via the printer's dedicated email address, which again works perfectly. One of the things which initially put me off this printer were the online comments about print quality, all of which I have found to be completely untrue, and I do have very high standards of expectation. In particular, comments about photo quality I have found to be very far off the mark. I also have a dedicated photo printer and have found the Envy 100 to be just as good at printing A4 size photos; if anything perhaps better. One comment mentioned lack of saturation, which most certainly is not true: saturation and colour accuracy are excellent in my experience.
The copy and scan functions are also excellent and the scan software is simple and effective.
I bought this printer because it is one of the few printers that, at the moment, work with the Apple AirPrint capability and have not been disappointed and would certainly recommend it to anyone, especially if you are an Apple Mac nut like me.
