Book Description

27 May 2008
Ilia Delio goes beyond the debate on evolution and intelligent design to reveal the Christ who is at the center of our lives in a complete universe. She draws on mystics and theologians to locate the love of God at the heart of a total redemptive process, not just physical but cosmic, cultural, spiritual, and taking place in human consciousness. Along the way, she offers surprising insights on issues such as artificial intelligence, technology, the search for extraterrestrial life, and, most of all, the meaning of Christ in our lives and our role as co-creators. Christ in Evolution is not an argument but a way of seeing the universe and our place in it with a vision that is "ancient but ever new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Integrating Science and Spirituality 2 May 2014
By Vernon
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A carefully argued and coherent exposition of the meaning of The Christ that makes sense against the background of our contemporary understanding of the universe and its history.
This approach represents an honest study of the relationship between the material universe - the historical domain of "science" - and our deeper experiences which are the domain of the "spirit" or "non-material" (Bergson) from a Theologian deeply rooted in the Christian tradition but willing to think "outside the box".

For a reader who requires a coherence between their spiritual and their cognitive (scientific) processes, this is a "must read".

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind and heart expanding 23 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Not a book for quick reading but repays the time and thought given to it. It offers a deepening of faith in the meaning of Christ and the possibility of relationship with Christ today, against the background of an awareness of the newer insights of science, in such a way that these newer insights tend to strengthen and deepen Christian faith. For those who see evolution as a threat to Christian belief, this book shows that the opposite can be the case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good news for seekers.... 20 Nov 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

As a priest searching to bring together faith and science in a personally convincing manner, I have found this book very valuable in that it brings to the table not only historically important religious values and traditions, but the latest ongoing scientific discoveries. I want to understand both and solidify my relationship with the Divine in an engaging personal manner. I believe that both science and faith flow from depths of our human reality, pushing forward toward meaning, understanding and growth... This book gives new light and joyful hope.

As a lay contemplative, this is the best book I've read in five years on the future of Christianity in dialogue with the world's great religions. I have given this book to four of my priest friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 1 Jun 2013
By Tony Whelan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Excellent, 21st century thinking. Well done. starting from the modern cosmological scientific worldview, the author argues cogently for translating such thinking into a new Christology.
