Book Description

A shared cubicle in a strip-mall law office was not the kind of career Kathleen Cotter had dreamed of but all that changes when her uncle, legendary criminal defense attorney Gerry O'Doul, invites her to join his Beverly Hills firm.

But O'Doul is old, his offices are on the wrong end of Beverly Hills, his glory days are over. It looks like another dead end for Kathleen until a new client walks through the door. Louise Booker wants her dead ex-husband's life insurance money but the suicide stipulation is stopping her. When the case goes to court, the judge challenges Kathleen to prove that the deceased did NOT commit suicide. The investigation leads Kathleen into scandal and murder as she follows a trail of lies and corruption. To save her own life, she must face something even more dangerous than the killer - she must face the truth.

This is not part of the Witness Series.

More About the Author

I marketed a world class spa when it was still called a gym and did business in China before there were western toilettes at the Great Wall. Then I wrote a book on a crazy dare and found my passion.

Now, I am a USA Today best selling author with more than 25 books under my belt. I love everything about the law and my Witness Series, introduces readers to a beach town in Southern California and Josie Bates, a beach rat, volleyball playing attorney and her ward, Hannah Sheraton. I also like to stretch the thirller genre a bit. Before Her Eyes, for instance, has a tinge of fantasy along with the murder mystery and it's all wrapped up with a twist on the very last page.

I teach at UCLA Writers Program and work with The Young Writers Conference, a program that helps motivate middle school children to explore the power of words. I am particularly drawn to kids and writing because both my sons have always had a passion for it. Eric is a playwright and Alex is in film. I am long married to a Superior Court judge

When I'm not writing I'm traveling, on a tennis court, working a sewing machine or reading. Thank you so much for taking a look at my author page. You can find out more about me - and leave me a note - at

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring 6 Jan. 2012
By Camilla
Format:Kindle Edition
I struggled to make it half way through this book but eventually gave up - something I rarely do but I found it to be exceptionally boring and half way through I had no idea what the main thread was about. We learnt all about Kathleen Cotters thoughts, style of dress, what she had to eat etc. etc. but no main theme had emerged.I would say the book lacked clarity and at times seemed to be going nowhere. To be fair to the author, I shall try another one of her books in the distant future and hopefully find it more enjoyable than this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear 19 Dec. 2012

Have read Rebecca Forster's other books which are great. This one I actually gave up on it was so boring. I am surprised because the others are so good. I guess very writer churns out something less spectacular every now and again.

What a disappointment. The first few chapters were so dull I couldn't go on and abandoned the book. I would not recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lazy plot of conveniences.... 26 Oct. 2012
By patsy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Although I disagreed with the other 2* review (who couldnt find the thread of the book), I too was very disappointed, having read some really decent books recently. If I have to say 'as if' more than four times, I begin to get frustrated - this book had me saying it every verse end! As if: everyone involved would have accepted so willingly that this death was a suicide. Oh and by the way, did you know your husband was a heroin addict with no track marks, no history of drug abuse but -- well, he was......

But stand back in amazement - in a blinding flash of inspiration, Kathleen Cotter comes up with the idea of disproving this by proving that in fact, he wanted to live!!!! (And this she had to rack her brains to come up with) But how handy that within the incredibly shady secretive world of Tysco - there was a disgruntled employee who happened to be closely involved with our victime. Handy eh? And poor old uncle Gerry - so bright that he blew the gaffe, as they say, in the dumbest way possible and then slipped in the bath!!! Dont think it was murder do you??

So Kathleen what next? Oh yes -- having been told to leave the billing to the accountants, goes along the corridor and meets the dumbest most willing employee ever who's more than happy to spill the beans -- dur. When the ridiculous has to drive a book along its more ridiculous path, its time to put it down.

R.A. Forster's legal thrillers are true entertainment. Kept me on the edge all night. I couldn't put the book down. When I found BEYOND MALICE and KEEPING COUNSEL, my weekend flew by. Excellent writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars good story, well written 13 Jan. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rebecca Forster writes well and creates believable characters with convincing dialogue. This story has a plot involved enough to hold interest, but not too complex to become confusing. I found that the novel flowed well and held my interest enough to look forward to picking it up again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read. 7 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another really great novel, although more thought could have been given to the final paragraph.
The end came and went in a couple of pages.
I think the final outcome could have been described in a far better and extended way.
