Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon throws you into even more dramatic WWII battles. The game--a standalone expansion which doesn't require the original game--offers a huge 18-mission campaign centred around General Rommel, giving you the opportunity to play famous battles like Ardennes, Tripoli, Tobruk, El Alamein, Sicily and, of course, Normandy. Furthermore, the add-on contains 8 single missions, with an entire new nation at war: Japan.
50 new units like Zero fighters and Blenheim bombers, the M5 Stuart and many specialized German tanks, US Marines and Afrika Korps units fill the strategy package. Burning Horizon features improved AI: the enemy seeks weak spots in your lines, clears minefields, and handles their air force cleverly. The mission objectives include a wide range, eg airborne assaults, evacuations, covert ops, defence manoeuvres, counter attacks and assassinations.

I'm a big fan of Blitzkreig just as I was Sudden Strike before that so I was always going to buy this. Those of you who expect things like sound or graphic updates will be disappointed as this is just a straight forward follow up to the original and as such there's no difference to the first game. In fact the first time you load it you'll wonder if the installation worked as everything at the front end looks identical! Once you click on the campaign screen however your mind is put at rest. The main campaign itself centres around the career of the German General Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox. The missions start in the Ardennes in the first days of the war and follow Rommel through Africa and back in to Europe.
The big change fans of Blitzkreig will notice is the enemy AI. No longer can scenarios be won simply by gathering your Panzers and storming points on the map. Minefields and ambushes await at every turn. Some missions are easier than others but it can still take well in excess of an hour to complete many of them. Another change is the introduction of rolling assignments. Rather than be told your whole mission in advance new instructions are given as the scenario unfolds which makes you a lot more cautious and sparing with your resources. The enemy also has more AA and Heavy artillery than before which seems to redress the balance. Previously it was too easy to complete a mission using a sniper and three heavy guns. Now by revealing the position of your artillery too soon you're likely to see it pounded out of existence within a minute as superior numbers hammer their position.
I was slightly disappointed with some of the solo missions but the as Rommel campaign makes up the bulk of the play I guess they can just be viewed as bonuses.
If you're a big fan of Blitzkreig you'll enjoy this expansion but if you already own the original then you may be better going for Codename:Panzer. It's also produced by CDV and if the demo is anything to go by it looks like being the natural successor to Blitzkreig much in the way Blitzkreig succeeded Sudden Strike.
Still, an enjoyable follow up and at this price most people will find it great value for money. Nice one CDV, keep 'em coming!!!

Fun:
This game, though old by present standards, has offered up a lot of enjoyment and many hours of challenging escapism. The graphics for this form of game are very good and the scenarios act as a small window into the actually conditions and events that happened 60 odd years ago.
My biggest problem with this game is that the accuracy of the weapons are not good where Panthers are knocked out by much lighter vehicles (for instance) and I cannot understand at all the gauge for the levels of difficulty. The Easy level is good to start, but becomes too easy and less of a challenge, then the Normal (is not) is at points much too difficult where the action that occur are often too bias. Tanks that took a number of hits in the Easy mode are knocked out by one round, on the players side, while the enemies are either the same or harder to knock out. While I see no reason at all for the Hard and Suicide levels as the latter, in particular, is unwinable. Why the creators did not put in a level between Easy & Normal(!), in which the strength of the forces were accuatly portrayed I will not know and leave out the Suicide which is a complete waste effort.
I will be looking forward to playing further games but hope that they have reviewed thier design, which on reading some reviews seems unlikely,and produced playable, realistic and varied scenarios .

This is a add on for the orginal blitzkreig which i really have fun playing it adds a bunch of new units and missions but im still wondering weather to wait for the other ganme by CDV codename panzers make sure you check it out if you aint already, its relased quite soon.
