This book constituted the vast majority of the text I used to pass the exam convincingly. For the most part, it's well written and readable. There are some sections, such as for EAP, LWAPP, and wireless QoS, that delve too much into the standard without first explaining the problem they're meant to solve or how the solution might manifest itself. Only once I'd augmented my notes with info from other sources, did I fully understand these subjects. However, most importantly, I don't recall any questions in the exam that weren't covered by the book. If they'd tidied up those ropey chapters, I'd give it 5 stars. In conclusion, currently it's the only ONT book out anyway, and it does cover the syllabus, but you might need to look elsewhere to seal your understanding of a couple of topics.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good as Online Curriculum 9 Sep 2011

Format:Hardcover
This book is a much thinner than the rest of the series.
The online cisco curriculum is much better, not a high score for this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Neo 22 Feb 2008
By Neo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Minimal Fluff. Clear and concise explanations, very good examples. I used the book to study for the ONT exam, which I successfully completed. There are a few methods that are covered and all I was interested in was, what the methods are, why were they developed, when to use them and how. The book proved to be right on the money. I would recommend this book as a Reference source as well.

Personally, I wish they would write technical books in this fashion using the following headings: Method, Why developed/Issues addressed, When to use and How.

Just forget all the fluff and get down to the Nitty Gritty.
4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good source for exam. 9 May 2010

I used this to book as my major source of information for the exam. I passed with relative confidence doing so. However, you definitely need to know all the information contained within. It's knowing the little details that often decide what the correct answer is. Don't let the size of the book fool you, there is a lot of information contained within. I would still supplement this with the chapter from the BCMSN Exam Certification guide on the WLC and Unified Wireless, more info on WMM from Wi-Fi Alliance site, and some further review on all the options you can do with class and policy maps (if you don't work with them normally). I also watched the CBT Nuggets videos. While great for showing some real-life CLI configs, they lack a ton of information and those details I mentioned earlier to pass the exam. They won't really help you pass the exam. Same goes for the Bryant Advantage study guides which are just too lacking to use for anything but supplemental information. While Cisco definitely has an occasional habit of asking questions not covered in their Cisco Press books (read: BSCI Exam Cert Guide), at least for this one sit, there were very few if any that weren't covered in some way by this book. The main knock on this book is that the author definitely has a tendency to repeat himself on some things and introduce acronyms without explaining or spelling out what the acronym is.

I received the book 'CCNP ONT Official Exam Certification Guide" in very good condition.

The book is interesting to read makes the concepts quite easy to understand. I recommend the book to anyone who wants a better understanding of Quality of Service mechanisms.
3.0 out of 5 stars Average Book 2 Oct 2009

This book is barely sufficient to be used as a single source to study from. If that's what you're looking for, you had better know some or most of the content already. If you'll need a lot of detail and examples to pass the ONT test, this book should be considered along with another one. I passed the test using only this book, but it was tough.
3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book but..... 14 Sep 2009

Chalk it up to user preference but for an official publication, I think I needed a little more than this book for the exam. It's a great reference work to use and to have beyond simply passing the exam. Covers most if not all areas of expertise required in supporting Cisco networks. More examination questions on the included CD would be nice along with exam simulations.
