5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising good introduction to Networking, 30 Sep 2003
By A Customer
I have almost finished my Bachelor degree in computer science, and decided to go for some Cisco certifications to get a broader education. I ordered this book just to “be sure” I knew what I needed before the exam. But what surprised me were the details in the book. I expected a book only about Cisco equipment, but it’s the best book I have ever read on basic networking (far out doing the more expensive books at my university). The book starts with some basic “network communication” and gives a lot of info on physical cabling, TCP/IP, OSI Layer, routing, acl to more advanced topics. There are of course some texts written “towards” Cisco equipment, but most are general networking. The book describes 10Base5 to all the 10Gbase Ethernets techs, and giving a feeling that it’s actually up to date. It is also aimed more towards practical networking to than other books I have read, and the cabling part is very useful if you don’t have any electrician experience.

This is the old version of the course, and therefore no longer accurate or valid for the new course.
