Product Description

The official test preparation guide for the CCDA 640-861 DESGN exam

  • Review topics in the CCDA 640-861 DESGN exam for comprehensive exam readiness
  • Prepare with proven study tools like foundation summaries, and pre- and post-chapter quizzes to ensure mastery of the subject matter
  • Get into test-taking mode with a CD-ROM testing engine containing over 200 questions that measure testing readiness and provide feedback on areas requiring further study

The first step in the Cisco Systems certification networking design track, CCDA (Cisco Certified Design Associate) certification requires that a candidate pass the CCDA 640-861 DESGN exam. CCDAs have the skills needed to determine customer requirements for security, scalability, and network management; design a network structure that meets customers' needs; identify how to build a network prototype; and link Cisco's products in an end-to-end manner.

CCDA Exam Certification Guide (CCDA Self-Study), Second Edition is designed for professional networkers and students who are pursuing CCDA certification. As such, the book will cover all the exam topics upon which candidates will be tested in this new version of the CCDA exam. Each chapter uses all the necessary components to help a reader prepare for the exam, including "Do I Know this Already" quizzes that assess knowledge; Foundation Summary sections that highlight essential concepts; exam topic lists for easy reference; and end-of-chapter review questions. The final chapter in the book contains scenarios that help readers prepare for the exam.

A companion CD-ROM contains more than 200 questions intended to provide testing preparation and feedback on areas for further study.

CCDA Exam Certification Guide is a best-of-breed Cisco(r) exam study guide that has been completely updated to focus specifically on the objectives for the new CCDA exam. Inside, you'll find preparation hints and test-taking tips to help you identify areas of weakness and improve both your conceptual and hands-on knowledge of network design concepts. This second edition is organized in a modular fashion, segmenting larger chapters into smaller, more easily digestible components. Material is presented in a concise manner, focusing on increasing your retention of exam topics.

CCDA Exam Certification Guide presents you with an organized test preparation routine through the use of proven series elements and techniques. "Do I Know This Already?" quizzes open each chapter and allow you to decide how much time you need to spend on each section. Chapter subject lists and Foundation Summary tables make referencing easy and give you a quick refresher whenever you need it. Challenging chapter-ending review questions help you assess your knowledge and reinforce key concepts. An entire chapter of scenarios helps you frame exam objectives in real-world situations, thus increasing recall during exam time. The companion CD-ROM contains a powerful new testing engine that allows you to focus on individual topic areas or take a complete, timed exam.

Well-regarded for its level of detail, assessment features, and challenging review questions and hands-on exercises, this book helps you master the concepts and techniques that will enable you to succeed on the exam the first time.

Looking for a book to get you your CCDA, well I am afraid this book falls a little short.

I do not want to sound to harsh, as the layout and explanations within the book are excellent, but the content does not seem to marry fully with the Cisco objectives and exam questions.

I found the overview of routing protocols (particularly OSPF/BGP) most useful as a primer. The section on IPv6 is good as well.

The section on Business Goals/Constraints and Technical Goals / Constraints needs more work. This is a very ambigous element of the CCDA certification and the book does not really help in explaining the intricacies of Top Down Design.

The section on SAFE is quite good, however you will need to supplement this with the SAFE whitepaper on the Cisco website.

I was dissappointed with the test engine provided on the CD Rom. The questions are just a rerun of all the questions in the book. Incidentally some of the answers to the questions on the CD rom are wrong and in contradiction to the answers within the book (unforgiveable).

This really brings me to the point on errors. The book has many errors, nothing too significant, however irritating. An example of this is the misprinting of the Format Prefix for IPv6 Site Local addresses.

If you have a grounding in Cisco (with perhaps a CCNA or more), then this book should help you succeed in your pursuit of your CCDA.

I passed my CCDA for the second time 2 days ago (my previous certification had just expired).
This book is not, in my opinion, very closely related to the exam at all, and the so-called "Practice Test" on the CD is next to useless when it comes to preparing for the exam. You would be better off exercising common sense when it comes to answering some of the exam questions! The CD "exam" is primarily technical in nature, which does not reflect the reality of the exam. I can't go into more detail about the actual content of the exam because Cisco might get annoyed.

There is not enough material in the book about the human, rather than the technical process, of designing networks from scratch or adapting existing networks to new requirements. The book spends too much time discussing technical details, and if you already have a CCNA or some real-world experience, are most likely to be already familiar to you.

Surely a good book: it contains all you need to pass CCDA exam. You need already know the basics of networking in a good level of detail. I suggest you to take the CCNA exam before to read that book and read "Top-down Network Design" from Cisco Press at the same time.

I passed CCDA with flying colours after using this book.
Good prep for CCDA exam however, I would recommend getting CCNA first and then get this book to pass the CCDA.
