one of the best places in the world to sail
memorable places abound to visit, sail to
rich in porpoises etc
guide offers sound basics information no sailor should be without for sailing here
don't limit yourself to just this one guide, get them all and explore the whole lot in your lifetime
probably the best place in scotland to sail, hence popularity
guide has good layout, easy to use, great as a reference, plenty to explore
highly recommend

This year was my first visit to the Firth of Clyde to go cruising. What the CCC has produced as a cruising guide for the area is worth every penny spent. It provides very useful information on navigation, anchorages and if you choose to use them, the various marinas. The Admiralty charts provide the basics and you will need them, but the CCC publication is like having your own pop-up pilot. If the weather is good, we had a heat wave at the start of the Commonwealth Games, the pictures and scenery are amazing and what you see printed in the book is what you get plus x10 more. The book also has a spiral binder which makes nipping down to the chart table and having a quick flick through to the relevant page very easy and it stays flat. Each cruising area is covered in it's own chapter with an overview map to orientate you. The writing style is neutral, but very thorough and as a piloting guide exactly what you would expect.
If I was being pedantic, I would have liked to have seen distances between the various ports shown, as per a normal almanac and maybe some personal comments on locations; Rothesay is probably not my choice of harbour due to the noise and business of the port; where as Port Bannatyne, only a 10 minute bus ride away is quiet and still old worldly.
A fantastic sailing area, perfectly covered by this CCC publication. I thoroughly recommend this publication to any one intending to cruise this area.
