Product Description

The Atomic Red carrot lives up to its name - its 11" long tapered roots are a beautiful scarlet color that gets brighter when cooked. This variety gets its hue from healthful Lypocene. Ideal crop for children to grow. Draw out the Atomic Red's remarkable color and flavor by steaming, roasting or baking these crispy roots. They're very tasty in soups or stews. Quantity - 500 seeds

These are incredibly easy to grow. They arrive at your door in a little resealable plastic bag which is in turn tucked safely inside a little brown envelope. Upon that envelope are all the sowing and growing instructions you will ever need to bring your Atomic Red carrot crop to vibrant life.

The instructions advocate a spring and early summer sowing for these babies, although it also mentions that they will germinate in temperatures as low as 4 degrees Celsius. I put all that information together and simply chucked a few into some vegetable planters at the end of February. Little did I know then of course, that spring would not in fact arrive until April. However, the seeds survived the snow and the icy winds and were clearly just biding their time. They are doing extraordinarily well now, and they're not even in a particularly sunny position.

Did you know that it was the Dutch who 'encouraged' the prevalence of orange carrots in the 16th Century, in order to honour their nation's colours? I've had that useless fact in my head for years - thank you for allowing me to finally tell someone!

I received my delivery of seeds today. They arrived in a brown envelope from Singapore with the seeds in a small foil package (about 1 inch by ½inch) inside (which looked very suspicious!). Apart from a small white label on the silver packet there are no other instructions or guidance as to how to sow etc. Definitely a bit disappointing.

It's hard to get too excited over carrot seeds. But if carrot seeds were cars, these would be Cadillacs. I can't wait to go to work and show these badboys off in a salad. OH IS IT SANDWICHES AGAIN ANDREW? MY CARROTS LOOK LIKE BLOOD

Have not planted these seeds yet but there are plenty of them in the packet so I am sure they will be great and will always be able to plant some more. Can't wait to be eating red Carrots!
