As soon as I ran Baldur's Gate for the first time, I knew I was sold. The AD&D rules and warm graphics made me feel at home immediately, and for me that's a pretty rare thing these days, I can tell you. The plotline is immensive with dozens upon dozens of sub-plots and assignments you can solve. A few have a time limit, but most can be solved at your leisure. The gameplay is non-linear and you can move forward in the main story whenever you wish, although you will probably want to get your characters stronger and more experienced. You will get to know the world you're in, which is immense and includes the city of Baldur's Gate which is staggering. This game is fun for everyone, but especially mesmerizing if you have played the Forgotten Realms campaign in AD&D or enjoyed games like Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder or Ishar 1,2 or 3!

All in all a five star game (a huge game, 5 CDs!), and with the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack recently released for the Mac, this could be your world for the next months!

This game was so unstable as to be unplayable on my wife's G3, and during the brief periods when it was running, it was horribly slow.

She ended up playing through the PC version, using a spare PC. Maybe it runs better on a G4? but in any case, I'd advise you to make sure you can get a refund if it doesn't work properly on your Mac, or just get the (much cheaper) PC version if you have access to a suitable PC.

This game is an absolute gem.It is a massive fantasy world set in medieval times.You take on hundreds of beautifully designed monsters,from dragons to orcs,each with their own special abilities and traits.With a vast array of weapons and spells available for you to wield this game is the most exiting and beautiful one of its type that I know.While you take on the legions of monsters you battle through the most beautiful scenery,including dark dungeons and lush forests.Just to make the game even better you can actually interact with you surrounds,i.e talking to charecters and moving scenery!!!Add all these elements of gameplay together and you have an absolutely classic game.Simply a masterpiece.
